I find that having these 3 programs can give you excellent protection against anything:
- Symantec Antivirus 2004 (don't get that Norton garbage)
- Sygate Personal Firewall 5.6 (if you can get PRO, even better)
- Ad-Aware SE Professional

Once you have these 3...you will sleep a lot easier.
And also, don't forget..Mozilla Firefox is the right way...the Heaven way...Internent Explorer is the path to Hell.

Mozilla Firefox has a very good built-in pop-up blocker and various security patches.

I use McAfee right now until the trial runs out, along with a few other anti virus programs, along with adware/spyware removal programs. I don't have them all running at once LOL. And I usually close my McAfee and unplug my internet adapter when I play video games. McAfee runs a lot of stuff in the background as far as I can see.

I used to use Zone Alarm on an older computer. It was just a firewall. Does it do anything else now, like virus scan?

I just set up the free Alwil Avast! anti virus and stuff and I don't see a clear way to shut it down when I want to. Plus I still have McAfee on here. Probably not good to have those two. I have McAfee and AVG, works fine. AVG is easy to open only when I want to update and scan. Well I'm doing a scan with Avast now, I'll uninstall it afterwards. I had to download an executable just to uninstall Avast. How silly is that.

Cool, as long as Zone Alarm isn't all over the place like McAfee and I can infact have it on my PC even if I don't have it open I may as well check that out.

Yeah I know what you mean by McAfee. I mean, when I got this computer, I had to run all these update downloads and restarting Windows over and over and over again. That's the part I hate about getting a new computer.

Of course I exit McAfee and unplug the internet when I play a game. Unless I'm playing online, which I haven't tried yet on this PC, I'll leave those open. Not sure how good online gaming will be with a wireless adapter though. The bitrate goes from 11 to 24 or even 36 Mbps. Probably because there's doors and walls and stuff between it and the router. I may get multiple USB extention cables and just run the adapter right next to the router, the cable going through the attic, and into my room into my computer. Hows that sound?
