I too had the problem of not knowing how to access the sub-menus, and the mouse pointer was nowhere to be found in order to click those 'effing arrows. So, I found out that by pressing 9 (not Numpad) on the keyboard, it should automatically change to the next tab (or submenu.) This works for painting, viewing statistics of other players, etc.
For Thrustmaster Dual Analog gamepad owners, it's the L2 button.
