i recently built a computer, and unlike the most of you i dont have 4000 dollars to waste on a computer, and unlike most of you, i dont need a 500 dollar plus graphic card. So here are the specs
The Grand total was under 300$ because i already had a couple things, like moniter, mouse and keyboard.
Intel Celeron 3.06
768 ddr (getting more sometime.l...)
200 gig Maxtor (I only paid 40 bucks!)
Biohazzard case
NEC dvd burner
what did i miss?
im getting a XFX geforce 6200 256 8x AGP card as soon as next paycheck comes.
Most people would think that this rig would suck against most, but its fine for me and plays prety much evry game no lag, and with this graphic card, it will do just fine.

My 2,85 GHz AMD64 X2 completely kills a dual 3,6.

200gig for 40 bucks, eh
Definately possible, it's just poorer quality. I'd rather pay more for an hdd if it guarantees better performance and quality. It also depends on the hdd speed. If it's slower, then it's cheap but if it's a faster hdd then it's obviously more expensive.SparcoPusher wrote:NFSBLUECIVIC wrote:200gig for 40 bucks, ehwoh do you know????got the hook up

I have 2x 250gb SATA300 Maxtor hd's with 16mb cache, 7200rpm.
They work really smooth but my system is still quite new so they aren't really fragmented at all and whatnot.
I know there are a lot better hd's too but these were quite cheap imo.
I think they were 110€ each about 3 months ago.

I got it at staples, it had a huge rebate, and they are doing it again right now, except its a 200 gig for 50 bucks. Anyway, the specs for the hd are : Maxtor Brand, "Ultra Series" 7200 RPM ulta ata/133 8mb cache average seek time less than 9.0 milliseconds. It works great for me, the reason i got big one is so i can edit videos. And i can put all my gaes on it no problem.2furio wrote:SparcoPusher wrote:Definately possible, it's just poorer quality. I'd ditch any attempt at getting a 6200, and go straight for the 6600... you should be able to pick up the Gigabyte NV-66256DP for roughly the same money, but you'd have a better card, if you want to fork out just that little bit more, go for an ASUS N6600GT, or XFX 6600GT, XXX edition, etcNFSBLUECIVIC wrote:im getting a XFX geforce 6200 256 8x AGP card as soon as next paycheck comes.
Which pretty much are just that little bit more than the 6200, but they dont suck... I would prefer keeping with my GeForce FX5500 than get any of the 6200's

Two words describe the 6200.... waste of money... okay, I lied it was three
Maybe you could try (not that I'd reccomend) the MSI Geforce 6600 NX6600-TD or any on this page depends on how much you want to spend, if you were going for a card less than 80 dollars, i'd reccomend the ASUS Geforce 6600 EN6600/TD
I'd go to a place like gamedude (Australia only) for my needs or other websites, heck even Ebay might have it
- EDIT (replying to post below) -
Oh, yes it would be a fair bit of a difference than onboard graphics, so if that's what you want to spend your money on... go for it

For desktop replacement I suppose, if one has lots and lots of money (to waste, imo).
yeah no crap
and did i mention it cost almost 5 G's
Smily rape!!!!!1
Anyways, lets get back on topic, here are my pretty pathetic specs. I don't find them that bad, and i dont have any money to upgrade. I can run GTR (fav game) with good gfx and no lag
amd 2200+ @ 1.93 GHz(OC'd from 1.79GHz)
512 mb ram
Ati radeon 9250 128mb (OC'd)
120 GB HDD (used to have 2)
17" monitor
XP pro. SP2

That is beautiful. If I had that kind of money, I would definately buy that laptop...I don't care if it's inpractical or if Alienware products are over-priced, that is still an awesome machine I would love to own.SparcoPusher wrote:http://www.alienware.com/intro_pages/aw_nbsli.aspx
