That's the exact opposite to every single review I've read. The M5 is fast becoming a legend in terms of performance. You've also got to bear in mind that the equivilent M5 in the E63's price range is the Harge M5, in which the power is cranked up to 547bhp, the torque up to 400lb ft, and the 0-60 times and top speed are 4.3s and 203 respectively.
That's about £69k, whereas the standard M5 is £59k and the Merc is £68k

Yeah they had to do one up to beat the E63, its only .2 seconds faster than it.

Standard E63
hp: 507.0 bhp@6800 rpm
torque: 465 lbft@5200 rpm

I can't wait til a supercharged version of the E63 emerges.

Yeah, and?
The M5 is quicker 30-70, quicker to 100, quicker to 120, quicker on a 1/4ml and faster round a track. It's £6k cheaper, looks better, handles better, and has a better interior.
The E63 is faster 0-60, 100-0 (M5 brakes aren't fantastic), has more space (touring version only) and is more subtle. Nothing really to justify paying £6k more than an M5
The only thing anyone would ever buy an E63 for is as a wagon, before the M5 Touring is released.
And price-wise, Harge E60 M5 vs E63 AMG is a fair battle. Less difference than there is between the M5 and E63.

And what about the safety comparisons... Being lighter can't be good for that.

I don't see how it could be quicker if this Harge M5 is only .2 seconds quicker with all that beef added. :?

And as for saying it looks better, man even a lot of BMW lovers say the M5 is ugly, hell even a Holden Commodore looks better than an M5 and thats saying something. The only M5 i like is the E39 (Good looking and V8), then they wrecked it.

People originally hated the looks of the E60 M5, but like all of bangles creations it grows on you. Everyone hated the 6-series, now most people love it. The beefed-up Mtech 1 and 3 series look awesome, and the 7-series is cyborg-killer cool.
The reason the M5 is quicker around a track and in its mid-range is its high-revving engine, the M-Diff and launch control (incendently was not used in 0-60 runs), and finally the 7-speed SMG box.
Safety comparisons? Current E-class is a 4-star NCAP, current 5-series is a 5-star. Both have low pedestrian safety.
I rest my case.

Though both cars are completely different to start with. One is for the hardcore driver, other one is for high speed cruising. In the end, all that matters is what you prefer.

Hmmm yeah i can understand that, some cars i see and i think they are as ugly as hell, but after time it begins to somehow look good.

BMW use a 7 speed box too?
I thought that was a Merc thing. Although i think they only use the 7 speeds in the SL models

Its called SMGIII and its a 7-speed Sequential manual gearbox- basically a clutchless manual with electonic threshholds and automatic capability
The Merx 7-speed is auto only.
