I bought a steering wheel just for NFS Underground. Been using it for every NFS since although it sucks for HP2.

Don't know how I do it, I just play, my brains aren't on keyboard while playing, my fingers are. I tried playing with joystick and steering wheel, but it's harder. Either I'm not used to it (probably that's it) or it realy is harder.

It's weird, once you've been using the keyboard for so long its actually rather hard to use a steering wheel. I do have a wheel, albeit a crappy one (really old Microsoft wheel) and I have used it on Most Wanted and NFSU2 before. I can't play the game with it though, it doesn't react quick enough for me. I'm used to the insane reactivity of the keys.

Even still I want a Momo wheel though... mmm gear shifter (haha pathetic).

Since my computer gaming started back in the halcyon days of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, I always use keyboard for NFS, with the following key combo (which was pretty standard on Spectrum games!)

Accelerate: Q
Brake: A
Left: I
Right: O
Nitro: N
Handbrake: Spacebar

Works for me!

Thrustmaster Dual Power 3 ...or 4. I don't remember and the label's all worn-out. Although the force feedback effects are not properly tuned in NFS:C, it is great fun to play, and I really like this gamepad.
I don't use pwned. I use BSODed. It's less cool and harder to say. I know.

Keyboard for all NFS, never had problem. Not gonna tell ya how I arrange my keys, but one thing for sure, if you are a kid and don't already have a license, using wheels will not help your actual driving at all, in fact it'll be quite the opposite (I'm sure you will be able to drive like schumacher during your driving test, but the bad habit of crossing your arms when steering your gaming gear will definitely fail you, at least that's the case in the UK), this is not an issue if you are in the US of course (I heard that driving test there is a no-brainer). Keyboard is not that bad, just spend some time with it and you'll find most people playing with keyboard are far better drivers than playing with joy sticks (I know a lot here will definitely disagree), but my view is if you can control the car properly and go faster than anyone else with a keyboard, you are far far better than those who use other means (abusive criticism welcomed  ).

First NFS: Underground I used a gamepad, same thing used on Toca Race Driver 2. Since then, got a cheap steering wheel controller (a Game Elements controller. I think the company is no longer in existence) and adapted to using it. The pedals are garbage. While the controls are analog, I wouldn't call the control on them very sensitive, or subtle. I'd say the throttle has maybe four levels. Off, slow, mid-range, fully open.

Until I spring for a new wheel controller, one that's in the 150 dollar range, I can make do with the one I have.

For drift events, at least on Underground, I found the gamepad worked far better than the wheel. I get the feeling I'd get much better results if I did the same with Carbon, rather than switching to first person view and using the wheel.
