Beefed up. Damn, fiancially, 1000bhp from the straight-6 BMW engines, and 750bhp+ from the 4-bangers, is suprisingly enough, actually alot cheaper than you'd imagine. 1000bhp for ~£30000 including buying the car...
Besides, holding an engine together isn't that difficult ;)

From what ive heard the bottom end of the cosworth is massively over engineered apparently able to handle 500bhp standard witha a safety figure built into that, but would still prefer a cosworth f1 motor, got a video of one hitting 20,000 rpm on the dyno

@ steelsnake00 nah it is not hard to hold a engine together with nuts and bolts, but when a small engine is producing huge amounts of power things tend to wear faster b/c the internals are moving faster. just the other day i heard of some 4 banger with around 250 hp had spun a bearing and threw a rod at the same time, whereas 250 hp in a chevy v8 would be considered underpowered. i would like to see how beefed up they are

The natural output of the cossie engine is about 300bhp, but they had to restrict it for road use, another thing about the cossie motor is that they where actually just a ford pinto engine block with steel internals, 16v head and a turbo. not bad outputs considering  , but really the threads about your favorite cars and the rs500 is mine because it had the potential to beat something that cost 3 times as much if not more and they looked so different from everything else at the time 8)

4-banger 250bhp vs Chevy V8 250bhp:
The 4-banger is always going to be more highly strung, but sheerly because of the nature of the engine, it will be lighter, more ballanced, free-er reving...fragility is only dependant on the quality of the parts inside the engine. You can build a big V8 from the lowest quality parts, but to get that much power in a lighter, higher-revving engine with greater refinement you need more expensive parts.
Just two different ways of doing the same thing.

Id say if it had to be a 6 cylinder engine it would have 2 be inline 6, theres just something i dont like about V6's, speaking of highly strung I recently got an old group A rally cross engine and i think it makes something like 170bhp and the power doesnt come in till 4000rpm and it drops off at 8000rpm, apparenlty its undriveable on the roads, but its in sore need of a rebuild

There are a few very good V6 engines. Race specced VW 15degree VR6 motors have a fantastic and well deserved reputation, there are some N/A varients putting out over twice the original horsepower. They have the benifits of ballance from the V6's (weight, 3 cyl a side, twin cams, central crank) and the smoothness of a straight 6.

I'm building one of my dreams but not my top dream car.
My favorite car is a Generation 1 Dodge Viper RT/10. It's got spirit it's a open top roadster and it doesn't have the Italian feel added in Generation 3 SRT models. I really haven't liked them but they would be next on the list. I'm more for the style of the car.
1.)Gen 1 Viper RT/10
2.)Viper(any)
3.)Hemi 'Cuda
4.)"69 Charger RT
5.)New Challenger
6.)"58 Chevy Truck Short Bed
3.)Ford Focus ZX3 Kona Edition (modified)
