Can you guys stop bashing him and just answer his original questions? You arent smart by knowing what a clutch is...
Clutch can be used for drifting as in real life.. Try it.. Tap the clutch while going 120 into a turn...
Im glad EA put it in... Of course you may be able to get the same result by just downshifting while keeping your RPMs high...

The clutch was brought in the PC version for the new generation of steeringwheels and pedels like the new Logitec.
that is why you can also choose each gear wich I found pretty handy with the keyboard. I made a key for 1st gear and the clutch also btw.
They did not put it in for the keyboard but you can use the keyboard for it.

1: i know tons of people who dont know what a clutch iszainzs91 wrote:firstly, no one in the world doesnt know what a clutch is.
secondly, i meant that you dont need the clutch to switch gears for manual.
2: you can shift without clutch in real life too right?? it ruins your car, but it's possible right?? or am i making a horrible mistake here....
Who found out you can get milk from a cow, and what the hell was he doing at the moment?
You have to be one lazy azz to shift without use of clutch... Plus no one wants to buy and install a new transmission.. besides.. If you own a car ith a manual, you will know what a clutch is, its impossible to drive a manual and not know what the clutch is.. Maybe you have the accelerator and two brake pedals?

A clutch is designed to disengage the transmission from the axles so that the shifting doesn't damage the gears and drivetrain. If you shift without disengaging, that is if you switch gears while the axles are turning and are linked to the drivetrain, you risk causing serious damage to the transmission. So you can shift without using the clutch. Is it practical? No, as it will most certainly damange your transmission.
korge, technically the clutch can act as a brake. Besides, what's the harm in two brake pedals?

Nah, some cars are "Semi-Auto" now. They're exactly like manual, but without a clutch.korge wrote:You have to be one lazy azz to shift without use of clutch... In my experience, it depends on the car as well. For example (I discovered this by accident after driving an auto for a while
) my old Vauxhall Vectra could shift between certain gears without the clutch without problems.
However, in my Leon, it is physically impossible to get the car out of a gear without using the clutch - you just can't move it! Might be because it's a diesel, but seems like a pretty good protection feature to me

To shift without clutch, the input shaft in the tranny (the one coming frome the engine crank) must spin at the same rpm as the output shaft (the driveshaft). Like that both shafts spin at the same speed and you can shift gears withouth using the clutch...But you have to know at what RPM both shfts spin at the same time, or you'll break the transmission. Rally drivers brake with their left foot, so when they want to corner, they have to brake and simultaneously downshift and blip the throttle. Its very very hard...
