Mess around with the cables and try to boot with just one hard drive (the affected one). My BIOS did this exact same thing the other day. I wasn't able to figure out what caused it, but was able to fix it by unplugging and testing different configurations.

I decided to just take the drive out, it was more trouble than it was worth and way too slow. It's a seven year old drive from my dad's Compaq.

I have just ordered the parts for my new gaming / multimedia PC wich should all arrive by the end of January. My main goal was performance and to make sure i can upgrade the CPU and GPU in the future without having to change my motherboard. This is how it looks:
I'll be sure to post some photos when i have it running.

Right, well, I gutted my bro's PC since he wasn't using it and pick up an extra 512MB DDR333 RAM and an ATi Radeon 9200SE which I put in my dad's computer and an 80GB hard drive and CD-RW drive which I put in my computer. So now I have 240GB of storage space and that secondary hard drive I've been aiming for.

ASRock ULi M1695 Mainboard
Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM IDE
Western Digital 160GB 7200 RPM IDE
NVidia GeForce 6600GT 128MB AGP
AOpen DVD-R CD-RW
Lite-On CD-RW
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.2GHz
2x 512MB DDR333 PC2700 Dual Channel

Its the so called PR (Pentium Rating) That means that the AMD cpu (@ 2.4 GHZ) performance is similar to an Intel Pentium with real 3,8 GHZ..

Well, the total cost is €2414 and that includes shipping costs. It's approx €80 less if you don't include shipping costs.
My current PC is limited to AGPx4 and dates back to 2001. Because of that the upgrades i could buy for it are very limited and i would sooner or later have to switch to PCIe anyway so i didn't bother with buying upgrades for it except for the video card wich broke and i bought a 6600GT.
A fresh start was neccesary and i figured now that i'm doing it i might aswell do it good. :D

I didn't include the operating system in that list because i'm still not sure wich version of Vista i'm going to buy. Still haven't decided between Home Premium and Ultimate.

Id rather picked 2 x250Gb Raptors with 16Mb cache, 10krpm and set em into RAID (stripe). Would be better then just 640 gigs of space, unless your fan of movies ofc.

It's more of an issue with noise. I don't want to hear my PC running or atleast as little as possible and those 10k Raptors make quite a bit more noise than a 7200 drive, or so i've heard. :D I also don't think there's much of a performance gain going from 7200 to 10000 and since i'm not much of a RAID person i didn't bother with them.

It's actually $3185 but thanks. :D

Well, point is that youll have 2 10k rpm drives running as one, wich will combine into same as 1 HDD running at 20k rpm, wich will certainly unlock more performance from CPU+GFX combo.

p.s. well, 10k ones doesnt do whole lot of noise if you have a good case, you might hear them better in quiet room at night but thats about it.

Go Ulitmate, it's worth it. Trust me, I've been running vista for a while now and have used both versions... Ultimate is totally worth it.

EDIT: MY 7600GT IS HERE!!!

I wont be switching to Vista before all apps I use will fully support it, and vista will have all its security holes patched up. Right now it looks like a good cheese.

Acually, if you have RC1 it's really secure, I've never used a virus program because the included Microsoft software is all you need. Crap, I lost my RC1 cd though, AH! I need a program asap.

PS. Beta 2 sucks!

Whoever says that windows firewall is secure enough just dont know how unreliable it is. You can adjust any kind of personal preferences, more of that if you dont use even a simple anti-virus your just asking for tons of spyware. You do know that spyware also exists in registry values and you cant track it down just by searching your HDD?

Yup, Vista RC1 comes with Spyware program, and If you don't like that, you can get a Windows OneCare for Windows Vista.

ok, major part of spyware removals scan only for files, but most of spyware hides in registry and activex controls.

furthermore security doesnt only means viruses/spyware, worms and other stuff usually goes right into the security bugs that is called a bug because an attacking application bypasses built-in detection software.

Man... You're lucky. 8800 GTS.

Think of when that thing will be like the FX5200s of today. Imagine: *Man 8800 sucks... Buy the new 20800 GTXQRZ instead...* lol...

rofl, we got quite a ways until the geforce 20 series. BTW are there going to be any more 8 series cards coming out that will be a bit more comparible in price and performance as the 7950 gt?
