Sorry if that came out the wrong way, I know that little engines can produce some nice power, I've just grown up around engines that are no smaller than 300ci. I just don't get that same rush in a 4 cylinder car. I wasn't flaming integra's, just that fact that someone with a 1600cc engine would try and race someone else, its like winning a race in the special olympics really, even if you win, you're still a retard

Go the Dodge, I work on a lot of Cummins engines (mainly trucks) and they are very reliable. I just bought my first 4wd pickup last week, and they are great if you have an active lifestyle, you can take them anywhere, throw a bike on the back, whatever you can think of. Any chance you could post some pics?

Its amazing how many people still turn to the good old bent8 LS1's. I love them, they are just so easy to pull power out of. Took a 2005 Commodore for a run at a test n tune on wednesday night, all it has had done to it is a stally, 3.55's in the diff, and an exhaust and it ran 12.1's consecutively. Thats not to shabby for an un-opened V8 that still gets 11L/100km. On a side note, Grez, after you test drive the LS1, see if you can track down one of the 6 litre LS2's to test. They really have a V8 feel, and aren't lacking that initial sluggishness that the LS1's are renowned for

Ive been talking to a couple of guys on LS1tech and N2S, apparently from simple head work, a half decent cam as well as breathing mods, and a decent map the LS1 often puts out around 500rwhp. Ive been offered an '01 SS with a forged rebuild for the equivalent of £6k too, so if I like what I see on Monday, I think I may well buy it.
Plus, the SX is dead for now. The finger has been pointed at inlet valves and a £700 rebuild which Im not too happy about.

Ouch. That's not good.
Ammusingly, though, I read a thread on RS246 not long ago from the bloke who bought the Audi off me; he pushed the boost too far on the standard (besides rods) internals and blew a piston
-
Oh, and new project-wise, I'm keeing everything very much under wraps.
BUT
Garrett GT35/40 hybrid turbochargers. Anyone got any recommendations? I'm considering an odd hybrid of a KKK29/GT35 (.73 compressor) or a straight GT35/40 (.70 compressor), expecting a spool around 2300rpm and a total output of around 550whp.

Grez mate, i'd definately consider the SS. They are a great car, and there a twin turbo kits that have just been developed for it that can be purchased for under 10000 AUD. But yeah, with a slight cam, and some good headwork those things will easily put out 500 ponies at the wheels. LS1 Edit can release about 80 horses without any engine mods from memory.

Steel - I like the sound of it, but I think you may be setting yourself up for disappointment with a spool up of 2300rpm. Ive never seen a turbo of that size hit full boost anywhere below 3500rpm, especially as the GT35 is a common SX upgrade (usually SR20). I would reccommend the TD06-20G, although I think 550whp is pushing its boundaries quite severely.
Monster - Thanks for the advice. My insurance wont allow turbocharging the thing for a while yet, but its nice to know the kits are there.
On a...strange note, I actually managed to get the SX started, which leads me to believe it cant be inlet valves, otherwise it wouldnt be able to build up the compression to fire. Its looking like a faulty CAS and a dodgy fuel pump.

Sorry Bogan, I got my figures mixed up, and I am definately out of the pool with this one. On a side note, there has just been an aussie made TT kit developed for the LS1, and the testing of the turbo's etc was unbelievable. Things like running the engine on full power with the bonnet down and no dyno fan, running the turbo's with both too much oil pressure and no oil feed, and winding the boost up to nearly double the recommended setting. The kit now provides excellent power gains, and still keeps engine temps to around 95deg/celsius.
