I never got into the whole Need For Speed thing, especially PS2 and earlier as always been a Gran Turismo fan and the two games are poles apart gameplay, physics-wise.
But bought Carbon because of all the hype, first day hated it but carried on with it and it grew on me. That was 360 version since then got it on PC (great for saving cars, but very buggy!).
Have I been missing out on earlier versions of the game (Underground. Most Wanted etc) and how do they compare with Carbon? (360 and PC). Thanx.
Which Need For Speed for Newbie?
Well for the 360 your only options are Most Wanted and Carbon. I dont think they have released any 360 patch allowing you to play the earlier games from xbox yet.
HP2 was good on PS2 but from what I can gather not that great on other platforms.
U1 & U2 were both fun games but after having played carbon you might find them a little to similar with lesser graphics. esp U1. Dont know if you want to go back further than that but all the NFS classics were/are fun.
If i was you I would pick up a second hand copy of Most Wanted for the 360. Good game that i feel lasts a little longer than carbon.

I agree with GoSsArD, except with the HP2 worse on other consoles, it's great on X-Box.
Since you've been playing Carbon, and if you go to U1, you will find the handling to be a little more touchy. But MW is the prime choice, as you have been on Carbon. MW does last alot longer than Carbon, and Carbon is far easier than MW.

MW all the way.
Much better game than Carbon, especially when you've applied the disbale catch-up patch on PC (details on this site). OK, completely unrealistic in that a maxxed Punto can beat a maxxed McLaren SLR - but it's an arcade game and it's fun (apart from that Blacklist race against Earl)!
Not sure if this was available for the XBox, or if XBox games run on 360 (being a purely PC gamer myself), but if it was, try getting hold of NFS Porsche 2000 (or Porsche Unleashed as it is also known). Generally agreed to be one of the best NFS by the users of this site. And it had a proper in-car view!
