Re: What Phone Do You Have?
Soo, I've been using the N73 for a while now and it works nicely...the joystick got a bit loose...and since I have to use it quite frequently for navigation, I just hope it won't fall off.
I have one question though, the N73 does have 3G but apparently, the 3G in Europe is different from 3G in North America and the phone does not work with the 3G in North America and therefore you have to stick with EDGE....is this true?

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
If that's true, what's the point of even having a 3G phone when our 3G is different? Maybe it's just Rogers with the stingy ways again.
I'm coming closer to purchasing a new 3G phone (Useless for another few years in Canada) that is moderately thin (16 mm or less) that is able to play music quite well. I've found 5 affordable choices that each have their own unique features and I'm wondering what you all think is the best one (Please take into account the price of each one as I would rather save money than have unneccesary bells and whistles). They are in no particular order and each has its price (including shipping) and http://www.gsmarena.com link with a list of specs:
1. Sony Ericsson K610 [$215 USD] - http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_k610-1431.php
2. Sony Ericsson M600i [$231 USD] - http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_m600-1425.php
3. Sony Ericsson W950* [$248 USD] - http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_w950-1443.php
4. Motorola RAZR maxx V6 [$260 USD] - http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_razr_maxx_v6-1649.php
5. Motorola RAZR V3xx [$255 USD] - http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_razr_v3xx-1648.php
*This phone has a nice 4 GB capacity, meaning that I won't have to purchase a MicroSD/Memorystick which is the case for all other phones.
Please take into consideration my wallet as it's only so thick. Also, these prices are all current eBay Buy It Now prices (which I will be using when I actually buy the phone) that are the most affordable (including shipping) and reliable (feedback %).
Edit: If anyone finds an alternative to any of these 5 phones that fit the criteria (3G, music, fairly thin), I'd appreciate knowing about it.

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
Hey AG, try Sony Ericsson's W880i.

One bad thing about this phone: It's VERY difficult to text message if you have big fingers.
And if I were you, I'd get the K610i. No questions. You won't like Motorola, trust me.

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
Last weack i find on the street one phone like this....But was broken : Display Lights OFF

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
The buttons on that W880i look a lot like the ones on my Nokia N91 8gb.
Yeah they might be a problem if you have fatty fingers, but for me they're no problem at all.
Even though the buttons are reaaally small, they're far enough apart so you don't hit the buttons next to them.

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
@ Andre: I currently have a Motorola V360 (quite bulky and has no features) and it's alright. But then again, I don't have anything to compare it to.
The W880i was one I looked at, but it's price is extraordinarily high, and as nice as the phone is, I can't afford to pay that much for it. But with the finger thing, I don't have fat fingers so the buttons wouldn't be a problem.
I am also leaning towards the K610 as it's quite cheap compared to the other choices and it has a nice, simple design.

Yup! Oh, the original N91 keypad is also similar to the 8GB N91. Only different colours.Pabl0z wrote:The buttons on that W880i look a lot like the ones on my Nokia N91 8gb.

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
After taking into account local prices for Memory Stick Micro/MicroSD cards, it adds an extra $40 onto the Sony phone prices for the same 2GB of memory to be inserted into the phone. That said, the Sony Ericsson K610 is only $5 cheaper than the Motorola RAZR maxx V6, which has HSDPA 3.6 mbps (3.5G). Another dilemma with the K610 is the lack of EDGE, which is what the local Rogers network uses for data transfers (I'm not sure whether it uses GPRS). Again, the RAZR maxx V6 comes out on top because the EDGE transfer is 238.6 kbps while the 3G on the K610 is a mere 384 kbps. And since my area doesn't have 3G networks yet, I will have to default to GPRS (if it's even supported), which is a useless 32 - 48 kbps.
The only areas the K610 beats the RAZR maxx V6 in are:
-Weight (by 16 g)
-Call records (20 more for each category)
-Email (I don't use mobile email anyway)
-Battery life (25 h more Standby, 4 h more Talktime)
-Picture viewing (Why view 2 MP pictures on a tiny screen?)
I'd list the areas where the maxx V6 beats the K610 at, but I doubt anyone would read it, and I'm sure many people have already stopped reading this long post. But if you are interested, here is a direct comparison: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?id ... hone1=1431
I rest my case. Any objections?

I still think Sony Ericsson is better than Motorola. I find Motorola lesser user-friendly compared to Sony Ericsson..

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
That is most likely true, but the two phones I'm comparing are of different leagues. If I wanted a comparable Sony Ericsson, I would have to pay a lot more for it. Also, I'm already used to Motorola, so the phone would probably be what I expect it to be (A reliable, affordable 3.5G music phone).
You are paying for the Sony brand. It is very clear with the memory cards, where Sony's are almost double the price for the same capacity ($100 for Memory Stick Micro vs. $60 for MicroSD).

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
True. Sony Ericsson's MMC cards are a killer. But in Singapore we can find the third party MMC cards at a much lesser price than the original ones. Well, it does cost more than a typical Micro SD and MiniSD for practically a small capacity, but it's not as much as the original one.

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
Your MicroSD cards are most likely cheaper, too. As far as I know, we only have a couple of choices for Memory Stick Micro cards. Sony (The ultra-high-end) and Sandisk (High-end). The $99 price tag was for the Sandisk, so the original one is probably $110 - $120.
Given that I'll most likely buy a Maxx V6, do you (or anybody else) know how the PC music to Phone playlist transfer works? Would I be able to use a MicroSD adaptor to insert the card directly into my computer and transfer the songs to the card, put it in the phone and allow the phone to recognize that there are songs? Or do I have to do it the "Motorolawantsmoremoney" way, where you have to buy a data cable/CD to directly transfer the songs from the PC into the MicroSD card which is already inside the phone?

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
I thought Motorolas came with data cables and PC software, mine did and its only a L6. Is the connection still miniUSB? If it is u should be able to get a miniUSB cable pretty easily and your phone should come up as a storage device on your PC.

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
The phone must come will cable and even with a small card.A 64 mb one.
But imo,you ought to buy a Nokia. The 6233 is the best cheap phone. But it's your choice.

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
6233 is "regular" thickness. The 6300 on the other hand is thin, and is pretty near to 6233 both price and features wise.

That must be the reason to choose a phone.. because it's 16g lighter... I know what I would choose, no need to even think about it when I see it's 16g lighter.
Look I can't help you with the choice, only thing I know is that I think Motorola is crap, cause I find them in general to be unpractical and in terms of most functions they are lagging behind most other manufacturers. but then that's me.
Ericsson are pretty reliable phones, but aren't always the most easy phones to use.
I did like the older ones alot before and in the beginning Sony took over Ericsson (T39 and T68i)
But I don't like that Sony forces you to use their memory system, like with all their products. apart from that the phones are pretty good.

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
Before reading the rest of this post, please understand that I do NOT like Motorola, and it is only a choice because of its affordability.
@ Glopaticki: That's what I thought, too; but my current Motorola V360 is not recognized by my PC when I connect it. This is a result of me not having a software CD (Maybe Rogers is just too cheap to bundle it with their phones, but even phones selling on eBay don't come with it unless it's a bundle).
@ taz: Motorola doesn't offer things like that. You even have to buy data cables seperately because of how cheap they are. The 6233 is okay (Slightly thick) but it is slightly more expensive than phones like the RAZR Maxx which has a significant number of features the 6233 doesn't.
@ Andre: Agreed.
@ vellu: The 6300 is one of the nicest looking (and thinnest) Nokia phones I've seen, but it doesn't have 3G and has a price the slightly more than the Maxx V6.
@ TheStig: I do not buy phones based on weight, I was just showing that the Sony only beat the Motorola in very unneccesary areas. I agree with you about Motorola, but my current Motorola has served its purpose quite well and I've had no problems (Other than large size, ugly design, lack of connectivity, lack of data cable, lack of CD) with it. But since the Maxx V6 is a very top-of-the-line Motorola, the features are plentiful enough to compete with the likings of other companies.
Sony makes great phones, but the price and original accesories you have to buy for them aren't the thing that I (Or others) look for in a phone. That said, the unique memory system Sony uses can sometimes be a problem if your computer doesn't have (Most do now) a M2 slot.

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
This has nothing to do with Rogers or any carrier but the manufacturer itself. Here, read this: http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/08/2 ... gets-fccd/Porsche-AG wrote:If that's true, what's the point of even having a 3G phone when our 3G is different? Why would Nokia prepare a 3G version of N95 for US if the original N95 already had 3G! I thought 3G was like GSM, the same everywhere but apparently there's American 3G and European 3G which really sucks 'cause it means I won't be able to use N73's 3G in Canada (assuming Canada and US use the same 3G technology).

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
In that case, I should probably ask the seller(s) whether the 3G is for North American or European markets. Is there any way to figure out which market the 3G will work on? I've seen that on gsmarena.com, many of the 3G phones say at the top "UMTS/900/1800/1900 for Europe; UMTS/900/1800/1900 for Mainland China". Does this have anything to do with the markets?

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
My friend has the 6233. Really an awesome phone. The speakers are the loudest I've heard of all phones and it has 320x240. Plus, installing themes on a Nokia is way easier than on my KRZR and there's lots of themes for Nokia, too. I'd get a 6233 if I was in your budget. BTW Nokia phones have pretty good antennas or whatever.

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
I just took a look at some reviews and specifications of the 6233. Looks like a great phone, but there are a few dissappointing drawbacks:
-3G is only 384 kbps
-Browser only has xHTML/WAP 2.0
-2.0 MP camera has low quality pictures (Not sharp)
-For a phone that's 2 years old, it's very pricey ($255 USD)
But I've been rethinking this 3G thing and now I'm contemplating whether I should even consider a phone with 3G capabilities, as 2furio has stated that most current 3G phones are made for European/Asian markets and will not work on North American 3G networks (Which aren't even in my area anyway). Maybe I should take a step back and just get a phone that's fairly thin, has good music capabilities, and is quite cheap. That leaves a myriad of choices for me, so should I just leave this 3G thing out of my purchase?

Re: What Phone Do You Have?
Why not get a phone with WiFi? As far as I know only Nokia deals with this, mainly the Nseries. N76, N80 and N93 & N93i and N95 are some of the phones which has WiFi. But since you want a thin phone, PLUS a good music player, the N76 should be good for you.
