I didn't think of that, it could have been the base RS model, which is an absolute piece of shiznit compared to the 'Rex and STi. If it was a WRX then I seriously doubt it. If you do happen to beat one again TF, take a picture of the front and back of it; if it doesn't have the signature bonnet scoop then it's either an aftermarket hood or an RS/RX. And more noticeable on the back is the badge. If it is a 'Rex, then it will have a rather large WRX badge right in the middle of the boot.

Thanks man. I was just gonna say if you want to get rid of them, I'd buy them off you. They are pretty rare here in the US... Anyone with a 'lude going for that JDM look is trying to get their hands on them.
Ah true, I spose I dont need them too much, how much do you think they are worth?

Lol the RS model is like racing a wheelbarrow, it was a WRX, but not an STI, I got a good look at it when it was sitting up one day.

I really should start carrying around a camera.

Depends on the condition. I'd be willing to pay $50 for a used pair in fair condition.

But to be honest, you could probably sell them for more. New ones cost up to $230 USD:

Lol, the WRX is in no way a god car. If the WRX driver was fairly shiznit, Tunerfreak should've been able to beat him quite easily, as the Prelude really isn't the slowest around.

I know that, but the Prelude isn't a god car either. If the driver at least knew how to shift a manual properly then he would have at least been able to stick really close behind the Prelude.

The WRX and STi are different cars. Beating a WRX is plausible, but theres no doubt an STi would have spanked him.

I'd like to bring this up. Almost all Scoobies and Evo's in New Zealand are absolutely rooted, mainly because alot of them are ex-rally models, and dont get maintaned well. There are a few people that look after their cars, but because they're so much cheaper over there, it's easier to dump off the car when it ****s up than to pay for a good fix.
Just my 2c.

Dont just trust the badging on a car. Ive seen plenty of non turbo imprezas sporting wrx and sti badging along with a turbo bonnet  (although it does add around 50hp)

I know a good number of people who lived in New Zealand for the first 22-25 years of their life, and had gone through more than three cars, because of them being poorly maintained before they bought them, alot of which happened to be Subarus. The only one I know of that is in any good condition is my mates brothers WRX STi that he bought for about $5000AUD, and had to replace the engine, and now it runs smoothly.

I'd like to put this out there too, the only way to get concrete evidence of this, is to take a trip over there, find 1000 people, test their cars, and find the percentage, and I just dont have the cash to do that, so I choose to beleive mates that lived over there, because they owned cars that were used.

I have a few mates who are from NZ, and they have told me similar things. Oh and they are all mechanics.

The reason those cars don't get fixed up is because of parts . . . or lack thereof.

Thats what I'm getting at, when the car does need a part, it's costly, and you might aswell get a new car. Or if you have another car, and a trust fund, order it from Japan, and then drive the other one.

...this thread doesnt make any sense. Why can I order a part from Japan, cheaply, and have it within 3 days when I live in the UK (about as far away from Japan as you can get), but people in NZ/Aus cant? :^o

A LOT of big power Japanese cars have come from that part of the world, lack of parts isnt really an excuse. I would say it has more to do with your friend(s) not knowing what theyre doing with cars. I have family in Aus, and Ive never heard about these lack of parts or mechanical experience.

We don't have much problem getting parts over, it's just in NZ from what I hear.
Time can be a problem though. Having a car stuck on a hoist for 3 days wating for a part is not really acceptable. And then you don't even know if the part is right until it arrives.

As an example, we recently had a Prelude in for a water pump. It had an H22Z1 motor, which apparently doesn't exist in Aus (according to our main parts supplier). Took 3 days and 4 different pumps until we ended up with the right one. And this is from local suppliers. If we were waiting on parts from Japan, it could have taken weeks. I guess most workshops over there aren't prepared to put in that much effort without charging a lot of money, which I can understand.

Or maybe they're just lazy, who knows :P

I promised jacoja to take a pic of the interior a few months ago, so I figured it was about time now. Took a trip to my dad this weekend to change to winter tires, and I also spent over 3 hours cleaning and polishing the car. Didn't stay as shiny for very long, but I did it to make it better prepared for the winter. :)

I am now driving a '94 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE with a 3.3L V6 150hp. It takes 12 seconds to go 0-60. I know, I did it. I blew the rear heater core pipe doing it, too  .

I used to drive a '93 Chevy S-10 Blazer with a 4.3L V6 and a Vortech induction system and 200 hp, but my dad mostly drives it now. I once drove that car over 10k miles without an oil change.

My best friend has a '98 Jetta Wolfsburg Edition (1.8L DOHC I4) with an aftermarket turbo, BOV, wastegate, intercooler, exhaust, coilovers, short throw shift kit, tinted windows, etc... Unfortunately, it only has the 16" wheels. He is looking for a set of 18" GTI wheels. It has 240+ horsepower, though.
