Well, actually you can technically compare any car to any other car you want. Obviously the I4 Celica isn't in the same class as the Twin Turbo V6, but in terms of used sports cars (mainly price), they are pretty comparable where I live even if they have very different performance features.

You guys are smoking crack.

All Celicas made before the end of 1985 are rear wheel drive.

Oh by the way, remember this?:

That link you posted is for the ST182 which has the Gen2 3S-GE. Those are quite rare and I doubt you could find one.

The ST184 has a 2.2L 5S-FE from a Camry, with 99kw.
This is actually from another topic, but considering that one, it's to do with the current discussion and two, you can't read URLs, tell me who's smoking crack?
Koenigsegg_Rox wrote:Actually, the ST184 has 1) a bigger engine and 2) 115kW compared to the ST162's 103kW. That's a fair bit more horsepower. Here's the website to prove it:

http://celica.dublet.org/reference.pl?celica=ST184
http://celica.dublet.org/reference.pl?celica=ST162%20LB
Note the bolded part of the URL. Now tell me, does that not say ST184? 115kW, not 99kW.

Although just to clear things up, we're both wrong in a way. You can't read URLs properly but then again while the 184 has more power, probably due to less weight the ST162 goes 10kph faster. There you have it, and you may continue.

I don't give a crap what it says in the URL, it's wrong.
And I explained why it has more power, try reading my post.

Actually no I'm not, because there is more than one source that agrees with my argument. The ST162 has the 3S-FE engine, which is (from http://www.3s-gen.com):

a 16 valve 2.0L DOHC (Dual Over-Head Cam) engine built by Toyota from 1988 to 1999. It's common use is in the Toyota Camry 1988-1992 model and a Toyota Carina 11 1990 model.

The ST184 has the 5S-FE engine which, not surprisingly, is exactly the same as the 3S-FE except for an increased stroke for a total of 2.2 litres. One thing that is common with your argument is that the 5S is also used in the Camry, but that doesn't make a lick of difference when these cars both have similar engines, but like my argument, the ST184 has slightly more power.

What the hell are you talking about?
I'll make this perfectly clear, so even you can understand.

The ST162 came in two models, the ST and the SX.
The ST had the less powerful, more economical 3S-FE, and the SX had the high-performance 3S-GE.
The '3S' indicates that it is the 3rd revision of the 'S' type block, with a capacity of 2.0L.
The 'F' and 'G' specifies the type of head, with the valve angles being 20 degrees and 50 degrees respectively.

The 5S is similar to the 3S (NOT exactly the same), but it was designed for slightly larger vehicles (hence the stroked capacity), and without high-performance in mind (hence the 'F' type head). The 5S-FE makes more power than the 3S-FE, but less than the 3S-GE.

Do. You. Get. It. Now?

Bogans right, the 2nd-Gen MR2 G-Limiteds also used the same engines. Although the earlier revisions with the 3S-FE were notoriously unreliable, it was largely due to electrical faults.

I was one step ahead of you on that one too. The 3S-GE version makes 135hp, and so do both versions of the ST184. The 3S-FE version makes 115 hp.

You're not one step ahead of anything.

All ST184s (yes, every single one) had the 5S-FE, which DOES NOT make as much power as any 3S-GE.
Which part of this don't you understand?

2.2 Litre
5S-FE
It was a US market only engine used in the ST182 and ST200 celicas as well as the SW21 MR2 and the Camry.
Absolute bollocks.

For starters, the 5S-FE was not 'US-only'.
Secondly, there was no ST182 Celica with a 5S-FE. They were sold only in Europe and Japan, with either a 3S-FE or 3S-GE.
Only ST184s had the 5S-FE (ALL OF THEM).
This is simply a fact.

Quite frankly, I don't care because I'm not getting a Celica anyway. I'll just let it die...

Now instead of crapping on about which Celica has which engine, can we get back on to the topic at hand?

Wow, so you're not even man enough to admit defeat?
"I don't care" is not a mature or polite way to end an argument. That's the sort of response I would expect from a 5 year-old.

In any case, I hope it wasn't this discussion that put you off buying a Celica. I'll prepare to amuse myself with the car you actually end up buying . . .

But quite frankly, who does give a rats bum, seriously? And plus by the time I 1) turn 16 and get my license and 2) get enough money, that Celica will be sold. In fact, It's probably been sold since this argument even started. I give up, you win, I move on, I forget about it. There have been a couple of people who agree with you, I accept that, but this argument is over. The topic is What car do you drive not which Celica is better for a first car.

They why in god's name are you going on about what car your going to get when you pass your test when you haven't even passed it?

We hear it all the time on this forum, little kids going "I'm gonna get a XYZ (usually some overhyped Japanese tuner) when I pass my test"; face it, your not in any position to talk about that until your there, cash in hand, ready to buy it.

Anything before that is just dreaming.

A few pages back I posted about the car I was going to get. It turned out to be the one I bought, so here's a recent shot of it. Nothing big and great, it's only a first car and I don't need much more.

I've got enough money to buy a lot of things, but I'd rather not spend it on them.
