Guys, in bikes it's not all about power, wich has more power etc, it's how it can use it on the road, and topspeed on a bike is not very interesting unless you are suicidal, then it would be a good option.

I expect neighter of you (not talking to steelsnake) have ever ridden a bike have you? cause of most starters even a 25kw bike will be a challenge.

Yeah, bikes weigh like 2 grams though (that's a hyperbole =D>).

Nah, seriously... bikes -
Ducati Demosedici: 141kw/171kg = 825kw/1000kg, which is Collossal!

195 on an 8 inch rim is kinda pushing it :P Wouldn't say it's dangerous, but I wouldn't do it myself.
Its both stiff and has rolled arches. :P

I have to say, Ive never had any even slight problems on track. I havent yet gone sideways over a rumble strip which is apparently ''when Ill regret it'', but then I dont plan to. I dont pussy about maybes, Ill race and Ill crash and burn in a fiery ball of awesomeness.
In the meantime I'm riding a Triumph Daytona 675 Triple

If you want a Ducati, save your AU$100,000 and buy a 1098/S/R. IMO better looking, MUCH better value, and the Desmo doesn't actually have that much over the 1098 in terms of power.
yep, just checked out the ducati website, saw it and drooled over my desk...

It's BEAUTIFUL! but then again so is the desmocedici...

By no means am I saying that other bikes are crap-there's a lot more bokes that are awesome, but that's just my taste.

Its not all about power god dammit #-o

Example- yesterday I went for a nice ride in the countryside (well, A and B roads all the way to Kingston then back to Southhampton, then back along to Reading). Partway through it I came to a pub with another biker sitting around outside. We got chatting and I immediately realised he was one of the lunatics who rides a 180bhp Yamaha R1 flat out, day in, day out, without full protective gear. I was there with the Daytona and my old uni mate from Kingston and his . Now, despite the Daytona and the F800 having between 50 and 100 less HP (though the F800 is running racing exhausts and a few other choice mods) we managed to keep him well behind us on the ride because despite his power and ego, he wasn't made out for biking. He was using far too much throttle in the shallow bends and straights and then having to jam on the brakes and upset the bikes ballance in the tight corners.

It's not about what you ride, it's about how you ride it. I've seen 450 Enduro's beet 800 or 900cc street fighters and 500cc sports bikes take down superbikes in the twisties.

Point in question, the Hayabusa. Yes, it's the fastest bike in the world, but it's almost as wide as a car and getting on for as long. It's got a huge wheel base and it weighs a huge ammount for a bike. These factors mean that it's better suited to GT cruising than it is fast runs. It's a bit like comparing a Merc SL55 to an Exiege 240R. The Merc may have a far higher top speed and lots more power, but on something curvy and fun I'd far rather be in the Exiege.

I know, I was pointing out how a small power out-put, say of a Toyota Corrola, which is slow, can be incredible in a bike meaning that you don't need huge power figures.

i.e. 25kw in a 171kg bikes gets you 146kw/tonne... more than in a Corrola, again, I'm pointing out how small power figures go a long way in a bike and it's not the same as in a car.

You can't compare a bike's power to a car's power. Of course you're going to need more to achieve similar results if the vehicle weighs more.

What steelsnake is trying to get at is that when you compare bikes to bikes, power isn't everything.

Exactly,

The driving instructor that learned me how to ride a bike drives a Pan European and he even goes to trackdays with that bike just for fun, and the best thing is, he puts down faster laptimes than most guys there on racers, and he even has the suitcases on the bike, he really is a incredible good biker, I learned alot from him.

yep, you guys got a good point, but IMO the desmocedeci isn't just about power, it's about the grace. (but raw power does come into it quite a bit.) I love it because it looks like an evil hawk, ready to chase down anything it comes across.

That said, true, there are tonnes of nice bikes around, and I agree with you guys on how much difference a driver makes. In fact, a good driver matters a lot more on a bike than in a car IMO.

Of course it does. On a car, 90% of the time you're on autopilot. On a bike, you have to concentrate for every second.

bit old, I know...

I'm thinking about saving up as much money as I can to get a decent 180SX because it seems better value than the Skyline I have at the moment. The main problems I have are a) how to get the money and b) whether it's a good car. This is Oz-spec I'm talking.

Good car? Depends what you want it for.

It's very difficult to find one in good condition, as most of them will have been thrashed. I've never seen a completely standard 180 in good nick. If you just want to turn it into a drifter/racer or whatever then the condition doesn't matter so much.

I did find a decent S14 200SX for $10,000, but $10,000 is the max I'm going for. My other thought was perhaps a Soarer.

Don't buy a Soarer. It's a very nice GT car, but the maintenance costs will kill you.

Remember... $10,000 for a sought after sports car, look out because they may have been thrashed... light tune R32 GTRs can range from $12,000 (stay away! lol) to mid-high 20s... So look at the prices , inspect the car and see whether it's in good condition or not.

Lol, Baumaxx, I think it goes without saying that you should check the price of a car and inspect it before you buy it #-o

Just had another one: a Nissan Bluebird SSS, we had one before the Rex and it was a great car, I'll have a look around again.

Um, I think it was a "R31", which according to him isn't anything special. "pintara on steroids" was the phrase he used I believe...

About 24k in Euros.

So considering that it's not very good, yes it's expensive.
