The rumour going around (but this is my cousin who is the "been everywhere, done everything, seen everything" type) is that the Chocolate is apparently a "phantom phone". Don't know exactly what that means, but I think my cuz said it dials numbers even when not in use... please prove me wrong...

Anyways, tomorrow I hopefully should be getting my G800. My sister (spikey_babe if you don't know lol) got a Samsung i450 a couple of days ago. I personally think it's crap, but hey, it's her choice.

How can you think that phone is crap? Other than it's thickness and price, I can't find anything else that makes it even slightly less appealling. It's got everything you'd need (OS, 3G, card slot, large screen) and an impressive battery life, too.

Yeah, but when I say it's crap, it's a joke thing. Just like when she says my G800 is crap, when it actually does everything her phone does better, except for the speakers...

@ TheStig: That's typical of Samsung, but if you do a quick search on the i450 you will find that it has a 500 hour standby time, which is something worth noting.

@ Koenigsegg: Again, the i450's battery life is over twice as good as the G800 and also has an OS.

Battery isn't an issue for me anyways, and what do you mean it has an OS, it's almost the same sort of format as the G800? Besides, the G800 isn't marketed against the i450 but rather the camera big-hitters like the N95 and that LG one with the 5MP camera (can never remember the name...), and against those it excels; it has a much better battery life than the N95, it has more and better camera features, and besides all that... it's much better than a V360 isn't it?

You're getting a G800, just for the camera?

If this is for real, that 5 megapixel whorage is the biggest marketing POS i've ever seen.

No, I've already bought a G800, and not just for the camera, but the camera is a big part in why I chose to buy the G800. The main reason I chose the G800 was that it was a much better phone than what I previously had (Motorola V360 and MotoROKR Z6), and I was kinda sick of Motorolas too. And, well, I think overall it's a cool phone. 'Nuff said.

@ Koenigsegg: The i450 is a smartphone, so it has a very different interface than a normal phone (It has a Symbian OS). And even though the G800 is a lot better than a V360, that doesn't mean you're getting the best bang for your buck.

There doesn't seem to be very much difference between the interface on the G800 and i450. And when you put it into perspective, my sister paid $50 more than I did, when her phone's RRP is cheaper.

I recently got a SE W950i Symbian SMARTphone (the emphasis is on the smart) - not by choice but because somebody messed up the order.
Anyway too bad the damned thing doesn't have a reset button somewhere easily accessible. I've had to take the battery out countless times as it froze completely.
Most of the problems were related to the build in messaging application: I have it set so it automatically downloads emails every hour. It worked semi ok for a while (unless it went to download emails when the signal was very poor - it hung the messaging app completely and wasn't even able to shut it down via task manager and mostly the only way was the hard reset with the battery) until I went for a trip abroad. Of course I shut the scheduled download off as data transfer in roaming is damned expensive. Well, that didn't stop the phone from checking emails whenever it felt it was needed (completely random may I add). So I completely deleted the email account. Good, no more unscheduled downloads, phone worked perfectly from then on. Until I returned home and readded the email account. From then on it was completely screwed. Scheduler even though I set it to once per hour, download emails completely randomly and what was even worse, usually after one or two downloads the phone silently hung up - it gave the appearance it was working untill somebody called or a new sms message was received. Then it hung completely - if there was an incoming call, it started ringing but none of the keys worked - there was no way to accept or even reject the call. The only way to make it stop ringing was to pull the battery out... After a few days of pondering what to do, I tried disabling the scheduler and fortunatly it worked. No more automatic email download, but at least I can accept calls...

Need I mention that there are no software updates available? Once again I'm completely disappointed with symbian smartphones. Maybe I'll get a windows mobile phone next, I somehow have a feeling that even windows can't be that bad...

I'd really like it if someone on here could answer a question about AT&T's GoPhone service. I just bought a Sony Ericsson w580i, put in a sim card from a gophone and now when I get a text message, the first thing that pops up is "the last transaction cost 0.00" and it shows my balance too. Is there any way to disable this alert from ATT? I find it very annoying because i have to dismiss that message before my ringtone I set for text messages plays which kind of defeats the purpose since the sound that plays when that transaction message is not my ringtone and is not long enough or loud enough to hear.

The G800 sensor takes so much better pictures than the N95. ....wow, and I thought the N95 took the best pictures but they look saturated and boring compared to the vivid pics taken by the G800.

Guys,I really need your help.

What to choose?

HTC Touch Diamond or the new iPhone 3G?

I can get the HTC even tomorrow with a Vodafone contract for 379 euros,or I can wait till Autumn 2008 to get the iPhone from Orange.
I'd get the HTC just because of the Windows Mobile OS and its quick sync, just to get rid of iTunes. :x

Waiting for some advices.

You are willing to pay 379 euro for a phone and still have a contract that you have to pay each month?

Definitely HTC Touch Diamond. When the iPhone 3G comes out, everyone will have one. One of the few good things about the iPhone was that it was so rare (outside of the US), which is pretty much gone now. Plus, Apple still kept that horrid 2 MP camera. I expected AT LEAST 3.2 MP.

New work phone (paid by my employer): Nokia E71.

I'm positively surprised. I was very sceptical about the smallish qwerty keypad, but I got used to it really fast. Good display, 3G, A-GPS, 3.2MPix cam, good sync options (as is to be expected from and e-series phone).

Currently I've got a Samsung D900

Image

I've been satisfied with it for year and a half now, but recently i decided to get a new phone, so i've been looking at these three; Samsung F480, LG KU990 Viewty and Samsung U900 Soul. Which one is best out of those? Samsungs look a bit more classy but the LG is quite cheaper.. And they're all pretty close to each other at the performance range.

Depends what you want to use it for. I'd suggest the F480 if you are looking for something that will be able to hold a lot of music/videos/photos because you can expand it's memory up to 8GB, unlike the 2GB on the KU990. Also, the F480 has the best connectivity options so if you are planning on downloading a bunch of stuff, it would also suit your needs better than the other 2 options. The F480 is the worst by far for battery life, though, so if you are going to be using your phone a lot, then you might want to reconsider it.

Also the Viewty (KU990) is a touch-screen, dunno about screen durability but you'd probably want to think about it.

Well, limit of the memory in KU990 might be 2GB yes, but i saw one with a 8GB SD card in it working perfectly, i don't know how though but it definitely is possible, so the memory is not a problem, heck, even 2GB would be good enough for me since i don't plan on using it for music, i'll just use my mp3 player for that. I don't download at all on my phone so connectivity does not matter in this case. And yes, i do know that KU990 is a touchscreen phone, just like the F480, i actually like touch sensitive technology. Overall, the LG seems like a better choice for me when compared to F480, i haven't had the F480 in my hands yet and haven't tried it in person, i did try the KU990 though and i must say i liked it. Don't know about U900 either, only saw it in videos, it looks nice as well but it doesn't offer much more than the Viewty for a higher price. Only thing that stops me from getting the LG right now is the LG brand itself, i never had a LG branded phone before and i heard few negative comments about them from my friends, like bad build quality, bad software etc. Disregard that, when i had the phone in my hands it felt really nice, it didn't have that cheap build feeling at all, software wasn't bad either and it has very slick design too...
I'm also open for recommendations, in the 350-400€ price range :)
