Your rig's name?
Your rig's name?
What's your rig's name?
Mine is Toaster. And it's imo a cool name. No, actually it's not, it's a hot name.
I chose it, because it produces more heat than my older rig and because it's awesome. And also because I like toasts.
Looks like they stopped making things smaller, less power-hungry and cooler.
My older PC is called OBSO1337.
This same topic was locked at The Hardware & Software forum, because Pabl0z thinks it's too small and unworthy...and well, I kind of agree with him, but it does fit into the Can of Spam.

Re: Your rig's name?
Naming your computer? ZOMG anthropomorphism! :U
Re: Your rig's name?
Lol, no, actually, it's quite common and a name is needed for networks. Otherwise I wouldn't name them. I hardly thought of names for these two PCs.

My PC is named BALTHASAR, which is (was) networked to my dad's PC, MELCHIOR. And the Nintendo Wii is CASPER.

Re: Your rig's name?
Phozon-PC (HP), French Fryzy (bluetooth phone name), Ryan's PS3 (erm...my PS3...duh)
Re: Your rig's name?
I don't have any specific rules for naming, but I do tend to name them by manufacturer or hardware properties.
Currenly attached to my workgroup are:
ASUS Vellu (Asus Vista) = Asus laptop A6Ja
Toshiba-m400 = Toshiba tablet M400-110
Athlon 64 X2 5600 (Athlon) = My "workstation"
Nas-250GB = Linksys NAS device, 250GB storage space (RAID-1)
X4 File Server (X4-server) = My server, primaly running file and backup services (and ftp). Current storage capacity is 1TB (3x500GB, RAID-5).
Also attached to the same network are Kiss DP600 and Dvico TVIX HD M4100SH media players.

Are you stupid or something?
But since there is this many replies already I'll leave this one open.
But do this again and I'll kick you in the nuts.

Re: Your rig's name?
Ouch. What's wrong with posting it in the can of spam? With discussion on PEW PEW LAZORS (example) being harmless, I thought a discussion on PC names would be as well. Or is it wrong because I shouldn't repost locked stuff into the can of spam? I just need to know to avoid doing it again.Pabl0z wrote:http://forum.nfsunlimited.net/viewtopic ... 30#p340930

EDIT: A, it's reposting an identical thread after the first one was locked. I thought it would be safe in this forum...the shame I thought It'd make a good topic.

Re: Your rig's name?
Oh. My bad.
I didn't notice this was in the can of spam.
I just always check the "posts made since last visit" and I didn't notice what section this was on.
Carry on.
ps. and I'm hungover so my brain is not working 100%

Re: Your rig's name?
Anyway, back on topic (not that anyone cares seeing that this is the Can of Spam though...)
My computer doesn't really have an official name, or not one I can remember. We sort of just go by the case color (all of our computers have basically different case colors so we go by that).
Re: Your rig's name?
That's how we called them too, until I bought another black case.

Re: Your rig's name?
Then you start using more specific names- obsidian / basalt (the shiny one), etc.peterfaj wrote:That's how we called them too, until I bought another black case.

Re: Your rig's name?
For work, I use boring, nerdy computernames like Vellu does. Ho hum.
My home machine is called AXE. It's because I've changed so many parts in it over the years that it's just like the proverbial 'Grandfather's Axe'.. six new handles and seven new heads, but it's STILL THE SAME AXE!!
Gotta admit tho that I slipped back into nerdyland naming the PS3's: PS3-60GB and PS3-80GB. Sigh.
