Never seen the appeal myself. For the same price you can buy a second hand proper performance car; hatches are more expensive to insure than coupés from my experience. They also all tend to be front-wheel drive, the boots are small, and the rear seats are cramped. I'd pick up a fast, RWD/AWD 2-door coupé over a first-hand hot hatch any day.
