Re: Favorite Car?
You do know that the GT2 is much lighter, right? The fact that it's built for tracks changes the whole story altogether. And the GT-R has a limited top speed while the GT2 doesn't.

Re: Favorite Car?
The GT2 is also RWD, which affects its 0-60 time. The turbo has a claimed 0-60 of 3.7 seconds in maunual, but Porsche do have a habit of underestimating that figure. Independent tests have confirmed a 0-60 somewhere between 3.2 and 3.5 seconds-around the same as a GT-R. Quarter mile times are roughly the same as well.
As for "pay too much", I'd rather have a car that felt good to drive, was purposeful, perfectly weighted, better looking and, lets be honest, more highly regarded, than a Nissan (which will always be "just a Nissan") that is faster. The V10 R8, too, makes the GT-R look decidedly unappealing.

Only the JDM GTR's are limited. EUDM/USDM cars aren't.Andre_online wrote:And the GT-R has a limited top speed while the GT2 doesn't.
For what it's worth, the 997 Turbo has been destroying geaboxes at around the same rate as the GTR, but Porsche have been covering them under warranty, Nissan haven't. What that says to me is that Porsche are admitting there's a flaw in the design. Nissan is blaming it's customers. While it's not a great business strategum, it does show Nissans almost blind-faith in their product.
As for performance, Jurgen (or Jurgen Imports in the NE of England) hit the 3.3 to 60 and the mid 11 quarter mile at a Supra shoot-out at Santa Pod with LCS turned off. You can't really base the judgement of how fast a car is on a single entrant in an event like that. You only need to watch 'GT Racer' to realise just how many ''racing drivers'' don't deserve to be behind the wheel.
I wouldn't buy a GTR or a Porsche GT2, but I do love them both, and I'd snap my neck watching one drive by in the street.

I would imagine the JDM cars are 112mph, but I have to admit I'm unaware of the GTR's unlimited top speed.

Re: Favorite Car?
I was reading an article on Motor Trend with a four-car shootout (GT-R, 599 GTB, Corvette ZR1, 911 GT2) and the GT-R got 195mph on the Vmax compared to the GT2's 199mph before its left-rear tyre got shredded and took out half the back bumper...
What I'm amazed with though is the ZR1's prowess. Being a 640hp supercharged beast it blitzed the whole field in a drag, and it was only 1mph slower than the Ferrari (which took first in that part, 201.5mph to the Chev's 200.4mph), and then the ZR1 beat the whole field around the test circuit as well. Granted it's already known the ZR1 is second fastest around the Nurburgring but still, they obviously did a brilliant job this time around.

Re: Favorite Car?
The quoted top speed for the GT-R is 193mph, but I would expect 195+ would be possible. The GT2 is quoted as having a top speed of 204mph (when it isn't eating it's own rear bumper). The ZR-1, remember, has 110bhp more than a GT2, and 160 more than a GT-R is quoted to have. Damn, it's even got about 25 more than a 599 GTB, which for the record is more of a super-GT than a supercar.

I'd call fanboyism, but... com'on, it's a GT-R. You have to love it.
Re: Favorite Car?
Eh, not really. It's a bit too high-tech, for my taste. I appreciate what it is and what it can do and I certainly wouldn't kick it out of the garage, but I'm just not a fan.

Re: Favorite Car?
I think they really apply to the JDM/Tuner department. It's like me and the new, say, MX-5. It looks good, they say it runs well, but it's by no means for me.
Then again, an R34 is at the top of my list of "Must-Owns." I mean, it's probably at the same level as a house.
(Preferably the V-Spec II, but I wouldn't complain about an M-Spec. Who doesn't like heated seats?)

Yes. I don't know anything about it though.
And also the GT-R that we Aussies are getting, Nissan say, has launch control and first gear WON'T rip itself apart! Huzzah!
