Steelsnake's B7 Audi A4 2.0 TDiQ- Project Smokey
By far the least interesting car I've owned in a fair while.
2006 Audi A4 Avant
-2.0TDi 170PS
-Quattro AWD
-S-line pack
-17" double 5-spoke wheels
-Black leather
-Bose 10-speaker audio system
-Bi-Xenon headlamps
-Pearl Aruba Blue paintwork
Space for the dogs, diesel torque but boring as bat sh*t.
What might be coming up for it?
-Revo remap
-RS4 interior
-KW coilovers
-18" BBS RS-GT''s
If people want proof of ownership I'll grab some shoddy camera phone pictures when I'm done working.

Sold the M3 about 6 months ago as I had a back op and the seats were making me very sore.^Speed 12^ wrote:oooo very nice motor that one!! Have you still got the M3 CSL? That was beautiful!

Big turbo diesels are the way forward. ~350lb ft of madness.

Am thinking of what to do for wheels. Considering 19x9.5" Boxster S wheels on adapters and maybe Boxster S brakes.
Set of these:

Re: Steelsnake's B7 Audi A4 2.0 TDiQ- Project Smokey
New turbo has arrived- it's a Garrett GT1749 fettled by AET turbos. Currently attatched to a 1.9 TDi manifold I got it with off the 'Bay, awaiting a custom manifold to be made up.
Still waiting for new injectors to come over from the states.

Re: Steelsnake's B7 Audi A4 2.0 TDiQ- Project Smokey
The stock one might as well be a motor from a jacuzzi. The garrett is good for up to 230bhp on the 2.0TDi motor. Coming soon- 2.5" turbo back exhaust and a towbar

230bhp from a 2.0 diesel isn't to be sniffed at. Big turbo = big lag.Striker94 wrote:IMO the wheels are really nice as they are (maybe a bit bigger?)

If I were a n00b I'd say get two turbos but I'm not (well not that much)
Oh, and could someone tell me how Porsche's turbo works? It's like "Variable Vane something or other..."

Re: Steelsnake's B7 Audi A4 2.0 TDiQ- Project Smokey
There's no room for a twin-turbo setup at the front. I'm going to have to butcher the bumper to get a larger FMIC in and possibly move the washer bottle in order to fit the new turbo and manifold in too. Plus, theres factors of everyday usability to consider
Variable Geometry turbochargers are essentially turbos which can alter their aspect ratio whilst in use. Basically, the turbo has a series of vanes situated around the turbine housing which alter the amount and speed at which exhaust gas flows over the turbine blades. This means that for low speed boost, you can narrow the vanes and accelerate the exhaust gas flow (meaning faster spool up) and for higher speed boost, you open the vanes and permit the maximum quantity of gas to flow (meaning that high boost is sustained and the likelihood of boost spikes et cetera is removed). If I remember rightly, it also removed the need for a wastegate.

I didn't win that pair, but I won a set of front brakes for £120. After asking some questions I realised that set needed a rebuild before being fitted.
