I can tell.. Volkswagens are always riced. They have the so called 'VR6' at the back, but it's probably just a stocky 1.6 litre engine. :P

The Street Racing, Performance Car Tuning Culture in New Zealand is quite diverse. If it's a car someone will modify it. From my experience the most common street racer type cars would be Subaru Impreza's, Early model Evo's eg 1-5, Mitsubishi Legnums (Station Wagon), All Mazda Rotarys eg RX2, RX3, RX4, RX7 quite common for people to transplant a rotary engine into something else eg 13B's into Mercedes Benz 500SE, 13B into BMW 1980ish 3 series.

If not rotarizing something it will be puting a EVO 5 engine into a Mirage. The golden rule for New Zealand car tuning is if it can be thought of it can be done. My personal favourite cars are 1970's - 1990's Toyotas eg 1982 Toyota Starlet, 1983 Toyota DX Corolla, 1977 Toyota Corolla SR Coupe.

Another trend in car modification is lowriders people put airbags and hydros into Impalas mostly but ive seen a Toyota Corolla 3 wheeling down the road. Also the modification of Van's and Pick Ups which involve taking the springs out and puting 17" mags on.

Lastly street racing which I enjoy aslong as your not being a doodle and driving dangerously. It normally begins driving around the center of town with your mates in your car doing the "Laps" which is down the main street of town and back. I do this most weekends from 9pm till 2am normally parking up on the side of the road and chatting to mates or picking girls up. I've been in "Drag Trains" (Convoy of performance cars and where from 10 cars to 200) traveling at 160Kmph on a 100kmph road. These "Trains" travel from the centre of town to usually new housing develpments or rural roads anywhere with long straight stretches of road. The cars all line up on each side of the road pointing the same direction for a quick get away in the case of police showing up (police also know as "Po Po", "50" or "Pigs") Then you just watch car after car draging while drinking a few beers. These drags normally start at 1am and go till ealry hours of the morning i've got home some mornings at 6.30am from the drags.

The biggest event in the NZ street racing calender is the Four and Rotary Nationals. Three day event First day the "Show and Shine" second two days the "Drags" hundreds of cars from all over show up. Best 3 days of the year.

Below are a few pictures from this event. But for more info goto

Ah, down here, they're all in it for the look. I seriously doubt anyone races in Ft. Pierce. Mainly because it's so small...go a little more south to West Palm and Miami there's a bunch of races going on all the time. But car wise, I've seen a few Eclipses, a ton of Civics, a couple Celicas with body kits and muffler timps, and some cheap rims. I doubt anyone in this town can afford turbo kits or much else.

Here are some more pics of the tuning scene in Myrtle Beach , North Carolina , U.S.A. , where I am on vacation . Seems like its all Mitsubishi Eclipses and Ford Mustangs here at the beach . Today my wife went to Hooters Restuarant to get a Hooters T-shirt and she stumbled upon a Mustang Convention that they were having there . She called me at the gokart track , so I left the track and got to the Mustang Convention as it was ending , but I managed to get a few pics before everyone left . Oh by the way you should check out the Hooters website at http://www.hooters.com/ , it's a pretty cool restaurant .

Hooters has great wings. The waitresses are basicly eyecandy for dudes. Other than that, it's a pretty good place to eat. There's SOOOOOO much silicone in most Hooters, it's amazing.

Sure...lol

btw..i dont know if this would be on or off topic but i think the whole tuner scene idea is a lame myth....everyone here in GA does it...mostly mexicans or young teens looking for adventure....sorta.Thats what makes it hilarious...seeing all these cars with no rims because they sold them to get a cool body kit,as if they were cool at all.Well thats my story and im sticken to it...If i wanted a nice looking car,id buy one...not some honda junk...id get liek a firebird or something...duh...

Ever since tastes differ?

You're into imports. (and have great knowlegde off it) and so are countless other's. Some only like Nissan's, some only like Toyota's etc etc.

and some people are in to muscle.

Even if they're old, drink fuel, are bulky and have the cornering capabillity of a brick wall.

If I ever get the chance to buy an Corvette '78 I'll do it. And I'll keep it stock. Just because I like the car very much as it is.

If I wanna own a car wich is capable off some fine street racing or any kind off racing, I'll focus on modern day stuff because that's build to last for some time and the changes are you'll still have an exeptable fuel consumption.

And no I'm not saying that imports suck ore anything like that. I happen to like both, but I have a softer spot for muscle.

But don't talk down on somebody's (dream) car.

Same here,I just hate the idea of the Fast n Furious mythology that ppl tend to have when working on their cars...

1) I can talk down on whoevers dream car I like. People from the Allied nations fought for my freedom of speech, I plan to use it. This works both ways, feel free to talk down about the Supra, I wont mind, opinions differ, its what makes the world interesting. (It looks like a bloated cockroach if you need somewhere to start ;) )

2) It was a joke, hence the '' '' at the end of the sentence. Sorry if any offence was taken due to misunderstanding.

3) By all means like muscle. Its not unknown that I would buy a Fox body mustang if i wanted a pure drag car. Simply because they can be put in the 8s for the same price most cars can be put into the 12s.

4) The 'FnF' mythology does apply, just maybe not in the area you live. Round here, the people who actually tune their cars (which are largely imports I have to say) do meet up like in the film, in old car parks etc. They do street race. And some of them do make money from doing it.

Oke, I misunderstood the smilies and reacted a bit too much. So I'm sorry for reacting in the way I did.

And I don't see the sence in talking your Supra down. It is an amazing car, and I wouldn't mind owning one myself. :D (Damm better build a huge garage then cus the wishlist isn't done yet :D)

And the FnF mythology isn't that bad. As long as it isn't copy number xxxx off one of the movie cars but somebody's personal choice. Then the FnF way off meeting each other could deliver some fine cars!

They sure do.

I mean if you've got the money to let your car look like that, then you could have spend the money more wisely and you could have developed your own style which will give you more respect than being a copy cat.

I see tons of RICED BMW's sick part is, there is a local Ricer club who is currently wanted by the police for several burnouts.
Yet they cruise peacefully around with their "West Side Racing" tags on their cars riding with high volume on their stereo, fat rims, riced body and lights but finally the best.
STOCK ENGINE!
LOL, you even hear it on the engine sound that it is stock, how weak is that?

btw Grez, fancy Supra you got there, but here you got yourself a rotary fan, still the Supra is an awesome machine, but not what I would own personally, but I hope to see one in real life some time soon (Very few Japanese sports cars here in Norway, but lots of BMW's, all I have seen is a Japanese Mazda MX-5 Miata)

Too much ricing now, though we got some Golfs, slow as hell because they are mostly riced up.

Ohh, but I think riced cars is a gobal thing. In Holland it's mostley Golf's, Civic's, CRX's and a few BMW's.

Most off the time it's the headlights, lexus look-a-like taillights and off course huge muffler tips that do jack but somehow suppost to be cool.
Everything else is stock. So most off the time they look fast but they're not. :(

Thanks. I sold the RX7 for this for a few reasons.

MPG. Fuel prices have been constantly rising, the 7 did 12mpg on a good day.

Reliability. Stock 7s have to be rebuilt every 60-80k miles. Mine would have needed it every 40-60k.

Power. I wanted something which had huge potential for power gains, but where I didnt have to take the block apart.

To each their own :)

It's all about taste when people are buying a car. You can see it just boys like girls. One boy says that's a good looking girl and the other one says no man she's ugly but both off them know just like whith cars that some girls are pretty as hell nowmather how much there taste is different from each other
