No, no, no. I'm getting bored of the same stuff all the time. They need to really go back in time or go forth and bring something new, something better. Though I miss the old tracks from NFS PU and NFS HP2 and such. Old NFSs had the best themes.

There's World Online coming out exactly for those types of fans who are not into SHIFT's sim-like driving model and closed racing tracks.
Instead of trying to please everyone with one title, there's several titles this year for different types of gamers.

Almost everyone ignores the other two titles and only talks about Shift. Might be because World Online will only come to Windows and Nitro only to DS and Wii.

With that said, I'm into anything that has well-executed gamepay, even if it is a bit stale (UC, which is no MW, but not that bad to me).

It really depends on how you define true fans. Yeah, Underground and Most Wanted were the cornerstones of success for the recent NFS franchise, but the olden NFS games had little to do with cops, and the very first NFS simply involved racing high-end cars on a track. Shift is geared towards those kinds of gamers, who can sit down and race on a circular track for 5-6 laps (maybe even more). That's a type of gameplay that really doesn't lend itself to open world and police. While I admit, those two elements worked great in Most Wanted and created a lot of fandom, I feel that this return to the "roots" so to speak is a nod towards the fans of the original NFS games. If you look at those who liked ProStreet and those who didn't, I can guarantee you that most of the fans who didn't like it were Underground or Most Wanted players compared to most who did like it were probably olden NFS game fans.

I just think that saying NFS has lost its touch with TRUE FANS is very much a simplification, and the statement really needs to be qualified. I personally liked Most Wanted and Underground. But I preferred games like ProStreet and Porsche Unleashed. And I'm looking forward very excitedly to Shift. Yeah, there are those players who won't like Shift because of their preference for open world. But that doesn't mean those are the true fans of NFS.
Of course this was just my opinion. I am one of those Fans who are used to the old ways of NFS titles. I have played Carbon, ProStreet, and Undercover. When I play these games, I don't get the same feels I get from playing Most Wanted. Like I said, I hope Shift does good, but it's gona go up against tough titles that are already out there and they might be better then Shift. I know GRID is old, But I am pretty sure that GRID will play a lot better then Shift.

Sorry that I wasn't clear enough about the TRUE Defination of "True Need For Speed Fans." Most of my buddies that play NFS Titles perfer the OLD Ways of NFS. Cops, Chases, Highway and Open World. Now I am not saying that everyone has to like what I like. I am pretty sure that there are guys in here that enjoy driving around in Laps and don't like the Open World. But in my case, I enjoy getting BUSTED and CHASED by "CROSS."

I hope I clearned up any mess I created regarding the true defination of "True Need For Speed Fans." If someone has a better defination, please share it with us.

You know I was just thinking then that we all think that we need to go back to the best games of the series, bring back the best bits and sprinkle a bit of new stuff on the top, but when you think about it (remember, this is MO) we really need to progress, not have our favourite game with extra features and a crappy new FMV storyline chucked on - we need to progress and find a new concept that will be our new HP2 or MW. But I guess that's what EA is doing though aren't they!

I just had the same crazy idea. I was hoping that they could Re-Create NFS: HP2, NFS:U and U2 and Most Wanted, but with the latest gaming methods used. I agree that we need new concepts, but EA should be going away from the orginal Idea and that is "Street Racing." I don't think EA is doing this. They are trying to come up with ideas that I far away from the original idea they started (Street Racing).

Sorry what are you saying with that I don't get it? That they're straying too far away from the "original idea" or that they're hanging on to it too much and should completely change there focus away from street racing. As I wrote before UG came in as a fad from "Fast and the Furious" and the change in focus was a welcome change to most. What I'm saying is that they need to find a new "fad" or create one of their own but as you said a HP2 with modern gaming methods would be frsh, wouldn't it?

I agree with what you are saying. Most of the NFS Titles besides Prostreet and Shift don't have the orginal idea, which I describe as (Chase, Cops, Open World and Of course my fav Mr. Cross). EA need to stick with these things. Now I am saying this is what I want. U might now want this at all. It's ok to come up with news Ideas, but keeps the concept same as the past NFS games should also be looked at. Man this is cool. I am enjoying this peaceful back and fourth talk.

yeah when I was reffering to the "original" concept of NFS I meant pre. Underground, which of course is not the same as "The Need For Speed" - the first game in the series. Technically, SHIFT and PROSTREET are closer to the "original" than Hot Pursuit and the like but let's continue with the topic at instead of moaning about a confusion in dictionary definitions shall we? Anyway, just to clarify, I think that we should go a new direction with the series, and that's not because I hate the current formula (I am the complete opposite, I love the formula of UG and MW, I've even completed Carbon 5 times!) but we need to find the new HP or UG or MW so we can enjoy something fresh and new.happy peter?

I was saying it to the Lambo guy. He keeps talking as if NFS U and MW and such are the "original idea" and "the OLD ways of NFS"...

Yeah I can't see Nitro with an overly complex tuning system, same goes (to an extent) for World Online, and we'll probably have to pay real money for parts, so it leaves SHIFT (and the 4th mystery game\ I guess) to produce I high level of customization.

I just read that the ESRB "RP" rating about SHIFT says "May contain content inappropriate for children."

Usually most racing sims are rated E or E10+ in some cases (ProStreet got it for suggestive themes). Does this mean SHIFT get might a T? I don't mind but... it seems unusual for a racing sim.
