Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
Of course cockpit view! That's what Shift is all about.
Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
Cockpit view, without a doubt.
The third person view in SHIFT sucks, the camera moves with the car, I don't like it. To me, racing games are played on the cockpit or then on the hood if there's no cockpit.

Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
or if cockpit sucks... or too restrictive
or there are TOO MANY cars on the track and you get knocked around ALL THE TIME making you lose your sense of direction... OR during drift...

Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
A racing game isn't a real racing game if it doesn't offer a cockpit view. It's the only way to drive. Games that offer only 3rd person views are usually simple arcade games.
The cockpit view in Shift is glorious, better even than GT5P's. The level of detail is astonishing - not going to upgrade any cockpit whatsoever - and the world movement effects really help a lot in feeling the various bumps in the road. Awesome job. More immersive than anything i have ever tried before, despite the annoying blur.

Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
however when driving in cockpit view, you wont be able to handle your car well enough when AI opponent kiss ur ass from the back to spin you out..
Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
^The camera view does not affect the handling of the car nor your ability to control it =).
Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
Well Summ, the camera view doesn't affect the handling of the car, but it might affect your ability to control it. For example, I can't drive cars that have the wheel on the right side. I recently bought the Nissan GTR and when I started a race with it, I had to switch to the hood view, because I can't control the car in the cockpit view. So this is a case where the camera view affects the way I drive. Of course it's not the camera's fault, it's mine.
And another problem that someone posted around here was with the Scirocco. When you upgrade the cockpit, one of the roll cage bars is misplaced, so you can't see the corners properly when turning to the right: this affects your driving.

Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
Exactly =). The camera affects your perception of the world and of different things - and I wholeheartedly agree that driving on the right side of the car feels weird, when you are used to driving on the left side - but it doesn't interfere with your interaction with the car. The car still responds to the same inputs the same way. That's what I meant.Hydro_PT wrote:So this is a case where the camera view affects the way I drive. Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
I like using the Cockpit view when drifting, makes it so much more awesome.
I use the 3rd Person view when doing anything else because some Cockpit views are really restrictive to my liking.

Oh ok, I understood your post wrongly then.Summ wrote:Exactly =). Of course that the car responds equally to the inputs you give to it. The camera just affects your perception of the world and this will end up affecting how you drive in the end.
Funny, I thought I was the "only" one with problems when driving cars with the wheel on the right side. None of my friends have a problem with that. Dunno if someone from UK is here, but do they have problems driving with the wheel on the left side?
Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
I'm from Malaysia here... We drive on right side.. XD
Its not a big issue but ya, I still need to get used to driving on the left side.

Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
i drive on both sides fine... or the middle *mclaren F1*
it's just adjusting the "side you take as a reference in corners"

Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
The A pillars are terribly fat in lots of modern cars. Perhaps they left them so in Shift to push carmakers to shrink them...

Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
i like to drive the cockpit view... and how i wish i have trackIR to help me look around... the only thing i don't like with the cockpit view it that i can't see the side view mirrors on the other side of the car... right side view mirror for left hand cars and the left view mirror for right hand cars... specially at corners i do not know whose on my blindside... for example am driving my skyline r-34 on a medium tight right turn that goes into a medium left turn... no problem for me on the first turn because id be in the inside... but on the following left turn i cannot see if a car is positioning for the inside... and that caughts me off guard... because on my real driving skills i usually use side view mirrors... i usually use the rearview mirror when reversing....
maybe a three monitor set-up would give me a wider field of view...

Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
i know that cockpit view is great but im driving the 3rd person view. i cant stop staring at those shiney cars LOL.
also it has no point to drive in cockpit view with a keyboard.

Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
@bluepencil: That's the only problem with the cockpit view IMO. You cannot properly see the mirrors, so when I'm racing online and I know that someone is right behind me, I change for the 3rd person view so I can enter the corner without having a crash. This trick has saved me on a few occasions...
It's a shame you can't look around freely in the cockpit and using the mirrors.

Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
Where is the option: Bumpercam, in this poll?
I think cockpitview is nice.... for a minute or so, then I am getting anoyed that I can't see enough around me, because the A-pillar and the dash itself blocks part of my view, and the fact that in all(most) the racing games that have cockpitview the mirrors are eighter not very good or you just can't see anything.
So I opt for Bumper or hood cam depending on the car or game for that matter

Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
mmm i really like the bumper cam where it is just me and the road but when i am far out enough in front i like to enjoy the graphics engine and i usually go incar....
also to change the topic direction on my post - While using bumper cam it seems that the car body outside of the camera overlaps the screen or even extends forward farther then the camera is showing. Example: you are a complete car length away from another racer and it looks like he takes himself out around a corner and you feel no bump on the controller or any jolt on the screen but that racer demands why you just rammed him off the track when you were over 2 car lengths away... could be lag but does this happen to anyone else??

Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
^^ That happens in all views, I use the 3rd person view and sometimes when I am what seems to be about a metre behind a car in front going round a corner, he goes off and I'm sure I havent touched him, my car has not moved as it would in a collision and there is no rumble from the controller or anything. But the other racer demands to know why I rammed him off. It's really annoying.

This happens to me quite often both as myself being the one causing the crash and the one being crashed. I do not believe it is attributed to lag at all.

Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
cockpit!! hands down!!, EA brought it backm and they better never get rid of it. That was their trade mark back in the day!! i love it!
Re: 3rd Person View VS Cockpit View
It depends what you're used to or comfortable with... For me I've played racing games since ps1/ps2 and before we had cockpit cams and stuff, there was only bumper cam, hood cam, near chase cam and far chase cam so I'm most comfortable with bumper cam. Ever since GRID came out people have started using more of the cockpit cam and NFS Shift have done a great job with it but like I said, its just what you're most comfortable with
