Re: What car do you drive ?
Especially for a 240SX like that. $4000 USD should be able to get you one that's had a bit of work done to it already (bodywork, rims, minor engine). Unless this one is in pristine condition (no problems at all, runs like new), you shouldn't be paying more than $2000 USD for it.
I'd also suggest using other sources to find your vehicle, because autotrader sellers tends to have pretty inflated prices on many of their cars.

If y'all have some magical place to find 240's for under 4k then I might have to reconsider the $3,000 rim idea for the Corolla. O_OPorsche-AG wrote:...you shouldn't be paying more than $2000 USD for it.

Re: What car do you drive ?
Is that for the OZ rims? Because that's way to expensive for cast alloy wheels.
$3000 could get you a set of forged Rays, SSRs or whatever.

True, but that was including tires and TPMS, which I might as well steal off my old rims now that I found out the Corolla's monitoring system can only hold 4 codes. >.<boganbusman wrote:Is that for the OZ rims? Because that's way to expensive for cast alloy wheels.

Re: What car do you drive ?
Meh, I'd personally say that's running too lean. Injectors too small for the turbo. Plus he could have at least bothered to clean the engine bay a little.
Bogan is right about wheel costs, $3000AU equates to near enough £1700- that's enough for a set of forged Compomotives in 8x18" and tyres.

Re: What car do you drive ?
The A4 will be up for sale soon. Looking at replacing it with a C5 RS6 saloon or a B7 RS4 Avant- probably the latter now they've dropped below the magic £30k mark here, and now post-recession business is picking up. In hindsight, I got rid of the M3 CSL at the right time!
Looking for an 04-56 reg car, Brilliant Red, ideally with the ultra-rare ceramic brakes (if RS4) and a massive spec list. Kinda tempted by the idea of a twin turbo V8, but they're all auto/tiptronic.
Mmmmm, brilliant red.
The better half can deal with the dogs in her diesel Golf.

Woot, dad bought a 2010 Camry, and I get the 97 corolla.
That's a sick Audi. I'd go for the RS4 as well.

Haha, we can start an NFSUnlimited Toyota Tuning Club!
As for the Audi... *drools*

Re: What car do you drive ?
The only tuning I'd be doing (or be able to be doing) would be interior, like steering wheel cover, seat cover, and thats abuot it lol. But I think the car was lowered once, before we bought it. Not sure though.

Re: What car do you drive ?
I'm possibly thinking about either:
a) getting some new mags for the S'Line, or
b) waiting till I'm 18, selling the S'Line, get some cash in my pocket and put down a loan for a newer car, possibly a non-turbo R33 or a late-90s Liberty/Legacy.

Re: What car do you drive ?
I'd plump for option B. Just don't get a non-turbo Skyline. They are, in a word, shyte.

Re: What car do you drive ?
In non-turbo form? Completely gutless- what, 190bhp maximum. It's kind of the reverse of a sleeper- everyone will think you have a faster car but you just don't. Pretty porky too- in fact with a power output of 136.7hp per tonne, it's actually got less power to weight than a diesel golf.Carcrazy wrote:R33 all the way.
Single turbo R33? Much cooler.

Re: What car do you drive ?
The problem I have with turbocharged cars though is that while V8s and turbos aren't illegal in my neck of the woods for a P-plater, the insurance rates on them are suicidal. That said though apparently a non-turbo'd R34 Skyline is actually more to insure than a '99 Impreza WRX. Which obviously says something about the R34's "boy racer" status.

Re: What car do you drive ?
Buy something a little more oddball then, without such a terrible reputation. My brother is 22 here in the UK and was quoted £2200 to insure an Impreza WRX even with a years no claims- however, he's just bought a Volvo V70R AWD estate for £4500, and is paying a little over a grand on it- for 300BHP!Koenigsegg_Rox wrote:The problem I have with turbocharged cars though is that while V8s and turbos aren't illegal in my neck of the woods for a P-plater, the insurance rates on them are suicidal. Legacy turbo sounds like a pretty good bet, as do fast Volvos and Saabs. Maybe it's the same in Auz?

Re: What car do you drive ?
Not entirely sure on the Volvos and Saabs, although they do make good sleepers. I'm moving up from something that only had 155 horsies from the factory though so power isn't really a necessity, but it would be nice. I'll have a squizz on CarSales again and see what I can come up with.

Re: What car do you drive ?
The issue with the non-turbo Skylines is that they look like a sportscar, but don't perform like one- kind of a reverse sleeper. I seek that as pretty disappointing but I dunno how others feel.

R32 GTS25 non-turbo? (Then again, R32s are supposedly unreliable moneypits, so it's your call...)

Re: What car do you drive ?
Nope, I've decided on a 98-00 Subaru Liberty/Legacy RX AWD Bilstein. Cheap on the insurance, cheap overall, pretty decent interior, and it has a non-turbo'd version of the STi's 2.5L. Which can easily be fixed regarding the turbo.

Re: What car do you drive ?
Sensible buy, but fitting a turbo is no mean feat, even if the engines are nearly identical. They'll run different compression ratios, which means new pistons and rods and possibly a new crank. Injectors will need to be bigger, rad probably need to be moved to shove in an intercooler, plumb lots of oil lines and potentially water lines too depending on turbo design...not to mention ECU, turbo pipework, and most importantly bigger brakes.
