The realism comes from their portrayl of how the underground street racing scene is. (Racing at night, Semi-Hot girls) and if its true, the option to fine tune your parts.
In any case I have some really high hopes for this game. And from what I can tell, its not going to disappoint.

hey guys, there was some news about the damage and release dates of NFSU2 on speedmaniacs.de , it was in german so i had to translate it into english (with some bugs), anyway here it is:

I would like to see damage caused by hitting walls, street signs, other cars and so on. I would like also this damage to spoil aerodynamics and in case of huge accidents - stop the car. That would be great because in NFS:U fastest lap times come from hitting walls hard and only Mazdas can do this right. If not for this advantage other cars would catch up on them.
It would be also great if
a) if someone hits you - he pays for repair
b) repairs should cost big money so that it wouldn't be a good idea to intentionaly hit anything.
c) racers with not enough money to pay for at least half of possible caused damage should not be allowed to join the race.
Above postulates are for Online mode of course. Nowadays game is totally unrealistic and noone cares about damage, everyone hit other players instead of passing them by...

i'm sorry,but dont you watch the trailer or video footage ? players hit the others like crazy lol, so they dont need to worry about anything ==>no need to pay for reapair
Well, you have to face it, sometimes it is faster to ram the walls through a corner.
Even in the real world, BUT there is a trick on doing it, you need to hit with the right speed, angle etc.
If you miss one, you will do more damage than planned to the car and you will be slower.
I don't recommend ramming the walls myself, but in some cases it is faster.
Personally when I race in games I tend to stay away from wallhugging and crashing as much as possible.
But if I am rammed out on purpose and I get pissed, I'll start taking the fastest route through some corners, wall ramming until I catch up, then you are the next one to get a spin.
In Gran Turismo 3, try doing some wallhugging, just try it, it has the same effects as in Underground if you do it right, it looks uncool but it is faster, again this is sad.
I managed to catch a car very quickly using this technique which actually surprised me.

Well, I'm moving my post from another thread here. Abdi discovered some new screens on worthplaying.com, and it shows evidence of 2 new cars and a dyno!
There's a LINCOLN NAVIGATOR!!! Sweet! it looks blinging.

You can see the interior as well.

Look at that blue car! That's new. Is it a Del Sol or something.
Anyway, from some of these screens the graphics engine looks updated and really nice.
