NFSU too slow

The game seems to run too slow.it runs good at lower resolution.

Also what does the patch do?

P3 1000ghz ati9000pro 512mbram 30gig harddrive

the patch helped out people that were crashing right at the start, but most importantly, took care of synchronizing races online. machines with better framerates used to have faster cars...
