what wil be the best engine sound

Post by r34-gtr »

who here actually likes the engine sounds in nfsu1? dey were pretty crappy in my opinion but dont get me wrong it put all the other racing games to shame.

so far in nfsu2, according to the ps2 and pc demo's....the evo8 and 350z sounds crazy! i played a sound clip of a real 350z launching and compared it with the silver 350z in the pc demo....i was suprised at how identical they are.

i just hope in the full version the skyline, supra and rx7 sound real coz seriosuly what can compare with the sound of a RB26DETT at 8000rpms? hopefully the rx7 sounds like a real rotary engine this time but so far what ive heard electronic arts has done a veryyyyyyy good job THANKYOU EA! :D

so what car do u guyz think wil sound the best?

Best Car sound?

Post by Scotty_ »

In my opinion the best car sound will probably be the mustang seeing as thought is got a big beefy V8 crammed under the hood. Id like to hear what the Cadilac Escalade and the Hummer sound like also. 8)

the evo or the rx8 should sound nice. But most of all the STI which should kill the streets :P

You know what game also has the best engine/exausts sounds?
SRS (Street Racing Syndicate)
They sound so real...when a car passes you you can hear it so well 8) its amazing. Thats the first time i heard a realistic sound in a game...but in NFSU 2 demo its sounds sick as well, especially the BOV and the engine/exhausts sounds louder so far but i think almost all of the cars are going to sound similar. In SRS they all have different and realistic sounds

I don't think all the cars are gonna sound similar. It would just be too fake if a Pug 106 sounds like a Mustang V8, or a RX-7 like an Escalade or something. Also, when you go to the directory of the demo and then to SOUND/ENGINE, you see tons of GIN files, each for a specific car.

i duno i hope they all sound different. about srs i bought it on ps2 wen it 1st came out n i was realy dissappointed, imo u cant even hear the cars they dont sound real at all, the shifting sounds so fake its like ur changing gears on a motorbike or something and the car physics are a mess. i try 2do a doughnut or a burnout n swerve it out...all it does is spin once n loses its revs. the bov/intercooler sounds were gay, sounded like something out of a sega master system game, even if u give it a little boost and your only at 2000rpms it still gives the bov as if ur peaking 8000rpms with 20 pounds of boost. in nfsu2 the bov/cooler depends on how much boost u give it.i think tokyo road racer had better engine and cooler sounds than srs but hey maybe u have it on xbox or something n they sound different?? or does anybody agree with me

i agree i cant wait to hear the mustang. I also hope that if the car is stock it sounds stock. I wonder if tip size would matter about how loud it was probaly not.

V8s have the best sound, ive never heard a real V12 but from the games i heard the m in, like lamborghinis etc. they soudn high pitched , compared 2 a V8

american muscle V8 engines are the best sounding engines IMO

edited:from what ive read about the Mustang(2005) its got a V6 not a V8. unless you get a different engine for it

i think the coolest thing about the sounds is that they are really growling in the lower rpm. I have a subwoofer connected with my computer. and when i start the 350z up, it just rumbles!

He means the low tones. Subwoofers REALLY bring out the low tones. Bass in other words.

hi, I feel honored that all of you care so much about the engine sounds in NFSU2. We worked very hard on a new engine sound system this year which paid off as all reactions have been very favorable, so thank you for your support!. We're very proud of this new sound system. So here's some details for the readers of this discussion-thread:

- We recorded over 40+ cars for this game. Here's a link to pictures: http://www.nfs-planet.de/pic.php?./imag ... d/0002.jpg The picture of this car is one of the cars you hear in the PC demo.

- The PC sound folder includes a lot of car engine sounds. The names have nothing to do with the actual car, or any car used in the game, so no need to think all these cars are in the game. They're not.

- Many of you have been renaming the sound-files in the PC demo to other names. This will only give you about 1/10th of the "sound" of that car. There are 25 parts to each car engine. When you rename the .gin file you only get 1 of those 25 parts. There is no way to hear the actual engine correct, except in the final game. So buy the game, you'll like it.

- We also incorporated a new system for some of the other sounds (crashes for example). Try it out, make the car tumble around. There's over 200 crash sounds in the game.

- your questions on V8's. You'll love the way it sounds. One of the V8's we recorded was a dragster mustang. Nice and powerful stuff. It's up to you to find out for which car and upgrade it's used :) You'll hear V8 idles, rev limits, accels, decels, off/on throttle, exhaust sputters etc. etc. All the details you'd want in car engines, they're all there in NFSU2. There are in total around 1000 recorded sounds for the car engines in the game.

- Some of the cars we recorded were heavy tuned up ones, some were (almost) stock. Each major engine upgrade has a different "feel" of power to the engine which is very noticable IF it was very noticable on the original car. 350z's for example sound very good already as a stock car, so the differences between stock and "super upgraded" is noticable, but maybe not as much as some others.

Hope this helps answer some of the questions.

ps: this is an unofficial personal response, meant for those writing and reading in this tread only.

supra: supra's actually have a very muted sound, very very very similar to the 350z exhaust. They're some of the hardest cars to record since they are very quiet (mainly just low-endy tonal stuff). but no worries, you'll like the sound of the supra, but note it'll be very similar to the 350z just like the real thing.

howdy!
forget NFSU1's car sounds. The technology behind it is 100% different this time around in NFSU2. In NFSU1, the sounds where looped samples, just like 99% of all other games out there. NFSU2 has EA-only technology.
The RX7 and RX8 will sound like the real thing. No question about it. We recorded several RX7's and Rx8's, including one super hyped up RX8 which sounds very hi-tech/jetty (for those tech-people out there, the jetty sound did not come from a supercharger or turbo whine as all chargers and turbos are recorded seperated from the engine/exhaust). As you probably know, RX7's sound raspy, which you can expect in NFSU2. They also go up to the insanely high RPM just like the real thing.

:):):):):)

i like that comment about the insanely high rpm's...coz rx7's sound spastic at 10,000rpms -11,0000 sum go to 13-14

1 question about the "intercooler/blow-off-vales" will there b different cooler/bov sounds for each car and depending on how much boost u give it

bcoz for example a cooler on a rx7 wil sound very differnt to one on a skyline whereas supras with a bov have that hi pitched bov sound
