Players' Thoughts about NFSU2
I liked the game its just to many options is not too good. its cool if there are mirrors and other parts but there are too many bumpers and spoilers, and i dont know but it feels wierd. Plus i think they could have put more cars, and i didnt see the showroom mode, there were visual glitches., and i still havent seen visual damage.
Personally I found just what I was looking for in this game, maybe it lacks some bodykits, but I don't use them (Prefer sleepers) also the visual damage is there, but nothing in the way you expected, all you get is shattered windows for a short moment, can be seen if you ram the traffic hard and get the external camera, same as NFSU 1.
To be honest, this game got what it missed now.

I didn't really anticipate this as the first game did not impress me at all, for an arcade-type racer the handling in the original really is quite annoying with perpetual understeer and then the annoying catch up by the AI is just downright cheating. This one improves over the old by somewhat liven up the physics, adding the much bigger world with roaming mode(the mountain passes is fantastic). Although too much emphasis IMO on you being HAVE to "trick out" your ride(as a result I got a car for "tricking out" and another just to drive). The new game mode too is interesting. Adding more traditional type of race track and then the Street X mode(which IMO is the best part of the game...where really I couldnt tell if the AI is cheating as they are left way behind....).
And I think very importantly, adding options to actually "tune" your car, not just slapping on different kit....
The first game I'd give it a 6.5, this one deserves an 8

The game has allot of good sides, the enviroment is great, the free roaming is excellent. Also the real tuning of your parts, engine etc, also a great idea. I like the fact that your able to really pimp up your ride with all sorts of useless gadgets. But unfortunatly there are still allot of things I hope to see different in future versions:
The menu scrolling, in NFSU 1 this was doable, but now it's horrible. At least give me back the backspace button to go back in the menu.
The amount of bugs in the game, there are just so many of them.
The fact that they made 2 version with different cars, why?
And last, something I like about games and hopefully will be done in future versions, a way to really costumize your game by making people be able to add their own stuff into the game, for instance, make your own vinyls in photoshop and import them with ease, no overwriting and replacing.
I still think it's a great game, and it's not all I expected it to be, but it's still able to keep me up till 2 in the morning playing. Just some small additions and they have, in my opinion, the perfect game

I suggest you rename the thread into 'Player Reviews" and make it a sticky. Thie way we all can post our own reviews of the game here... Reading RacingManiac reply makes me fear worst and my review can be quite similar as he mentioned a lot of things I also found annoying with first version, especially the dumb AI.

*nod*
Yes, the AI is quite dumb and got several real problems on some of the url-races (driving strange s-type curves on straight lines eg). The story isn't really a big thing (well, what did you expect from a story in a streetracing game anyway?
"save the world" by driving a car
)
There are lots of new and very interesting things, like RacingManiac I like street-x very much, a very fast and short race, were you need some kind of driving skill and even have to brake sometimes.
There much more Sprint/Circuit tracks the in nfsu1 and most of them are longer then the under 1minute tracks in the first part.
But one thing is even worse, wallriding is the best way to take most corners (at least on the circuit/sprint and the url-airport tracks). So for me, online racing will be limited on street-x mainly :-/ (somehow I don't see the point in racing, when you never have to use your brakes)

hmm, here's my thoughts on nfsu2
i had alot of expectations for this i guess.... after gettin nfsu1 quite late (say 5mths b4 nfsu2 came out), and then hearing all the new features of nfsu2.
Good things about the game, is that the handling is a little betta than nfsu1 in my opinion. and more cars is good too =) but we know all that..... =) just i don't know wat direction the game is going - was it going for high speed racing like nfsu1? or drift racing? cause atm, it doesn't suit either fully....(maybe i need a steering wheel >.<) but at least you actually have to do more to control ur car a bit, like handbrake is important sometimes.
also, i think its a good thing that all the cars are somewhat balanced - i havn't found, and don't realli think that there is a 'best' car, like there was in nfsu1 with the rx-7. in nfsu2, even the ae86 has a chance of winning certain races.
one of the best features is the performance tuning, as we all know already =)
and since i have a crappy gfx card, its hard to enjoy the visual treat that i see in screenshots of max details... i rkn the graphics look fine ^.^ and the car sounds are awesome =) glad they updated them from the dodge nfsu1 ones >.< lol
another plus is the new modes - i realli enjoy URL races and Street X which leads me to my next point.
Other modes are not quite as fun. Drift is still the same, nothing much different there, but downhill drift is kinda pointless. half the time u are spent going side to side on a straight to build up points... its much much betta doing the downhill sprints =).
And circuit/sprint is such a pain - honestly, the track layouts in nfsu2 are not as thuoghtful as nfsu1. In terms of playability, i find that the nfsu1 tracks suited the handling of the cars. But with the still 'heavy' feeling and the 'not quite right' powersliding/drifting of cars - tracks filled with 90 degree corners turn into a 'i can't be stuffed doing it properly, i'll just wallride... exits faster anyway' which is kinda boring. As there is no penalty on say acceleration or handling for smashin walls, circuit and even sprint races are realli dodge. I think the layout of the city is fine for a city, but who races in the city centre? >.<
drags are pretty much the same.... .. i hate traffic =P haha....
other minuses, is the soundtrack... kinda lame >.<
but gameplay wise, with the 'boring' and LONG circuit/sprint layouts - the career mode can get a bit repetitive and the only purpose for playing is .. to finish the game.. but since i'm a bit stupid, i thought i'd leave the outrun races till the end... >.< so that's very annoying..... i hope i didn't miss much on unique parts >.< - career is good, but still no story - the 'story' in the game is hardly anything... i guess its hard to make a story for a racing game.... but still....
in my opinion - the nice simple layouts of the nfsu1 tracks, coupled with the tuning/cars new modes of nfsu2, it would be a competitive and enjoyable game... after nfsu2... i jsut hate doing circuit races....
i give it - 8.5/10 ^.^
its still nfsu, and its still fun =) just don't do 1.5min+ circuits

In the first time I played I found it amazing... until I unlock the Audi TT. There's no competition for that one in nfsu2it just acelarates better, as a better top speed and a beautiful handling. I never thought that a Audi TT may win to some cars in nfsu2 and now it looks like the superstar.
I think the game is too easy, and I hpe online game can put some difficult on it.

The game isn't too easy in hard mode. No matter what you do the CPU will be one step behind you. Though, oddly, if you fall real far behind it's quite easy to catch up. You'd think after making so many of these Need For Speed games they'd have come up with some type of AI. If I'm a better racer than the hard CPU, then ******, I want a f******, margin of victory greater than .5 seconds because I earned it the whole way through the race.

this game....was in a rush....
all i can say is this U2 was worse than nfsu1...
dunno why, i found it not exited (i mean below expectation) to play, maybe is the graphic prob, i found all the textures are pixelated!! (my vga card cannot support anti-aliasing option... it makes it really laggy).
and.... shops... search until me headache...
it doesnt hv the speed feel.... like u1...
and i dun like the sms option, y dun jz use PDA? like splinter cell or doom3
and da brooke burke...jz appear in illustrations, no animations...
anyway, this game can kill my free time, and worth 2 play

well, i sorta agree wit jayhan_2003. BUT, not totally.
i just got the game, and i dont see how ppl could already have unlocked a lot of cars that fast. (hardcore computer addicts?)
they really tried 2 copy the GTA series. u know, wit the free roaming. and the road and city has not that good graphics. i'll admit the car engine sounds good, though.
also, the car didnt feel as fast.
and, kinda agreeing wit VladikRudy0017, there r 2 many options!! but i guess its not EA's fault. more options r good, just that its so hars remembering them and using them.
it didnt really live up 2 my expectations, but its good enough. so, wit that all done and said, i think i'll go back 2 playing nfsu2. cause i just got started!!!!

I have just started playing a "borrowed" copy of the North American version of the game (until my Euro version turns up).
All I can say is that after about 4 hours play, I'm STILL using my original Pug 206 GTi (its a sleeper and has hardly any visual mods, only performance) and am still kicking the bumbum of the AI (even though I can't seem to get the Pug over 170bhp at present.) I DO like the ability to tune the gears, suspension etc, as I can finally get my car to handle as I would like.
I have also managed to get a Lincoln Navigator, and, as I suspected, the SUV's suck big time. This went straight in the garage and hasn't come out since!
The graphics have definitely suffered since the demo - in fact, on the same settings I was using before (1200-something x 1000-something), full anti-aliasing, the cars look exceptionally blocky. But the game runs a damned site better, so who am I to complain?
In summary, I can't wait to receive my own Euro version and start using the Corsa.

I just played it and hated it. I'll definately not buy it. The controls are way too fancy, come on it's need for speed underground, not initial D. The cars are ugly and the racing modes aren't anything amazing. IMO it's another game with the sequel syndrome. The first one was a hit and nothing really revolutionary nor exeptional comes out in the second one. Sure the city is very nice and all but overall the game just sucks. Also, there's too much rice in the car showroom. What were you thinking guys when you did those cars?

i think the game lacks of some popular cars, S2000 is gone, no S15 silvia (last version of 200SX), subaru imprezza P1, 97' corolla WRC..... i think these are more of a tuner's car, and 2 seater roadster too !!.
The free roam is great, i like it very much, but just less of that, opponent car will flash you with the high-light thing, its always the player that is looking for trouble.
, but real good, driving a trick out car in a night city. sweet.
Track racing, URL and track racing is giving me the headache, some of them will take more than 2 minutes to complete a track, and yet you have to run 3 or 4 laps, maybe worse. URL with 2 or 3 of the races 'bundled' together to make you double and tripple heacache.
Engine and exhaust voice, i wonder that the rotary of RX-7(13B) sounds the same as the skyline(RB26DETT), supra(2JZ-GTE), all 3 of them sound the same for me. i think the RX-8 sounds the same too, but i like that voice.

The last thing is about the modification parts, car body mod etc. well, this is my opinion, i dunno that maybe i got a bad taste but half of the body parts are like going-to-space design, some are derived from submarines..... it doesn't looks good to me, well just for me. i think EA should ask someone to go into some motorsports event to look around and take note. Performance mod, and again underground wont let player get ALL those unique performance upgrade. -sad-, i always wanted all of them~~
But overall i like this game 8/10 , hope that the NFSU 3, if they are going to make one. will be like 1 DVD, 50 cars, include those hot tuner's car and include some of the nowadays real life motorsports body kit.

Hi@all!
I just finished the game and now ißm really disappointed, that it is over so fast. The last races sucked, because of the Street X and URL races. There where too much of them at the end. Also the long racing times and/or the many rounds you have to drive are really boring. I think more Drift and Drag challenges would give the player more long time fun and also more useing/testing for the lvl 3 performance upgrades. It´s like in NFSU, your car is buil completely and the game is over, this sucks.
The race-start-animations are not bad, but more of them would have spended more athmosphere but after the 5th race or so you know "all" of them and jump over them.
The little movies, which introduce the player in the new areas are more then bad, a little more attention on them would have been nice
What is this with the replay-function? A great, long awaited tool, but why without a save-function? i don´t need a replay, if i cannot show anything of my stuff to friends. Hope a patch will fix this, if not remove the replay function, its useless!!
After all i liked to play NFSU2 because of the many options to tune your car and of course the new big city. I really enjoyed it to drive through it and find new areas, shops...
But at the end it is only NFSU with a better graphic set and more options but not the great new Underground experience.

i forgot...
whats this with the SUV´s? as i saw the first screens with them i really was looking forward to tune and drive a fast SUV, but the shock came, as i buyed the Escalade, with my last hard earned bucks. Slow is not the right word and it moves like a f+++++++ bus
i drove 5mins and throwed it in my garage until i reached lvl 3 upgrades, installed them and still slow and boring.
after all it was a bad decision to import SUV´s to NFSU. a useless feature and only ok for showroom.

It's not just you - I also think it's either EA has no taste at all or they have no clue about what's actually 'qualifies' as a kit. Seems like they just made up their own Underground world, and think it's cool... 7 MIllion copies might have sold, but than again, Britney Spears sells millions of records - doesn't mean she's actually worth it.MarlboroMan wrote:...modification parts, car body mod etc. ... maybe i got a bad taste but half of the body parts are like going-to-space design, some are derived from submarines..... it doesn't looks good to me, well just for me.
I believe they did - at least what they said... I guess they went to a Lego car show or something...MarlboroMan wrote:i think EA should ask someone to go into some motorsports event to look around and take note.
I would love to hear SOMEONE FROM EA comment why this crap of kit was put into the game. Just to save money and not bother with licensing? That just shows that they are so sure that their game is good enough as is, and people will buy it regardless - so no need to improve. I truly hope THQ puts Juiced onto a level that will rob EA of sales in the segment and teach them a lesson. Reading Gamespot review shows again, that the second NFSU seems to be not living up to expectations.
PS. I've started the game, now playing with second car - (first was Corolla) - the Audi A3. It's quite funky, i like how it sounds. Gonna try to finish this game as fast as possible (the AI is so annoying that i can't be bothered to fight it out anymore - just ride the walls, it's an arcade)

i dont like that there is not much of a story, no faces to names/voices, no rivalries. just a big city with lots of random import racers, no gangs, no friends or enimies. i miss that stuff from UG1. i wish the game was more money based, eg. all parts and cars are available, and u have to choose to go for upgrading your old car, or trading it in.
Things I liked:
car sounds
ambience souds
tuning dyno bit, even though it's so superficial
some kits, esp. that wide bodys for some cars like Lancer and Focus are based on WRC.
things I don't like:
confusing menus/map system
shops system - drive all around to installer a friging bumper to increase 'visual style'
...ehm... visual style point system
gameplay
dialogue
cutscenes
driving
open city
AI
Stage 5 to the end - just a torture.
Finished the game on Easy, after seeing how messed up the AI was - I totally lost any motivation to even try to drive competitvely. The game doesn't reward for good driving. It rewards for crashing your opponents, wall riding and other crap I'm not up to.

I think it's the fact that we are just getting older - someone who's 13 will not be bothered with a realistic game - because they keep crashing all the time. Realistic games require a wheel, time and knowledge of real cars, and often race cars. so nfsu is definately not that category. What's sad, is that at some stage they thought 'this is better than something like Porsche NFS'. Which is a big shame, as Porsche was most realistic NFS game, and still sold well and was enjoyed by many.
Looks like we are just too old for this game to enjoy it 100%. If that's possible.

basically if you want realism none of the commercial games do it, its the more unheard of games - i.e rbr, f1c + mods
plus I sometimes get pissed off with the sims and welcome something like this, i can just sit back in the chair with my joypad and play, instead of getting cramp using a wheel for ages lol

things I don't like
- ya, confusing menu system.. scroll like hell to get the part i want. they should have thumbnail
- stupid, not improved traffic.. nothing more than a moving road block
- cannot run over island in the middle of road.
- unrealistic hit.. my car looks like a super-car when it hit a traffic and throw it 100 meter away
- outrun mode is stupid, although it is a good try
- only 4 cars in one race.. not much fun there
