ghost_4ce wrote:"sunk into a state of isolationism and cut off the outside world.." ROFL !!! If you read what i had said, you would have noticed this is exactly what I am against. And this is exactly what the Bust govt. is doing.
Well, its not. By becoming involved in our affairs, its straying away from the isolationist attitude it once had.
The US mainly attacked Iraq thinking it had WMDs which would be a critical threat to it in the future. The rest of the world waited for the UN and would have supported its course of action. If WMD had been found, the world would have thanked the US for taking care of it. Instead, WMDs have NOT been found and thus the Bush govt. quickly said that they had "freed" a country from a terrible tyrant. (btw i had not even imagined that someone had really believed this untill ur post lol ). Terrible tyrant: yes. Freed it: no!
How so? Saddams regime has been toppled, I think youre forgetting that he had thousands of his
own people killed. Now that he has been removed, are people under threat from his regime? No. The WMD claim was thanks to Allied intelligence forces. Aerial photographs in the months before the invasion showed lots of movement around ammunition dumps, missile silos etc. Its known that he used to have these weapons (see the biological attack on the Kurds which sparked the first gulf war), why is it so unlikely that he wouldnt have them over 10 years on? I personally still believe there are such weapons in existence.
And you keep reffering back to the World War when they are COMPLETELY differnet "struggles." Germany was a single country (well the main one anyway) with a crazed but powerfull ruler who was trying to "rule the world' so to speak. Whereas terrorists are completely different.
Again, I dont see your logic. Lets compare:
World War II: Started due to:
- Germany invading Poland
- Hitler killing his own people (German Jews)
Gulf War I:
- Iraq invading Saudi Arabia
- Hussein killing his own people
Operation Telic and others like it were NOT in the hunt for terrorists. The Afghan war was, Iraq was not. The sole purpose of the Iraq invasion was to remove Saddam from power after he failed to comply to UN regulations. While the UN wanted the US to wait longer before taking action, it would have ultimately done the same thing. Had we gone in when Bush wanted to, its likely we would have found any such weapons.
Firstly terrorism is global phenomenon (u can find them in a pub in london too) and they are not simply soldiers fighting under oders.
True, but that wasnt the case in Iraq. Firstly the US and UK fought Iraqi armed forces, then the remaining were
guerillas. Very similar to terrorists, but with the aim of liberating them from oppressors rather than religious belief.
But is the trigger the first thing you reach for when you meet an unbalanced person?
When they reached for the trigger first, sometimes its the only way you can react. If we gave into their demands, then they would simply commit more acts to gain what they want.
Why was AID not allowed to be sent by the UN? Why was it only kept under the hands of the soldiers ? (pure facts by the way. You may not see this on CNN, but "propoganda" goes both ways buddy)
Aid was allowed through. I say that not from propoganda or news reels, but having family and friends serving in Iraq.
And another remark I beleive he made is about this "Axis of evil" Where he named a few countries on the fly who he didnt like the look off. What if you were part of one of those? Even if you believed evrything about your country to be wrong, you will not be too impressed when you get a "label" on you due to this comment. And you know what this reminds me of? This reminds me of RACISM !!
Actually, I wouldnt mind. It may sound strange to you, but if Bush declared Britain on the 'axis of evil', he will commit his forces to fight such an axis, not the civilians who live within that country. Conflict has come a long way since the days of carpet bombing, weapons are of such precision today that civilian casualties are at an all time minimum. Obviously theyre not perfect, but its a risk Id be willing to take. Its not racism, thats the same story we get here, its ridiculous.
Case in point: It is
known that weapons are being held in a UK mosque, so SO19 (basically our version of SWAT) storms the mosque, recovers the weapons and makes arrests. The Police are then branded racist by Muslims for raiding a mosque. Make your own conclusion on that one, but just imagine the mosque on a broader scale.
