It must be some better version. Get real, it isn't.

You would have an 6800 Ultra if it was worth 500 bucks.

Its very diificult to answer your question as both are very old card. The closest i could find was an article comapring the 8500 with the GeForce3 Ti500. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/ ... 0-gf3.html

Dont forget that NVidia cards come in a HUGE varity. That Titanium version (thus the "Ti") is the best type for cards of those age. I cant remeber a GeForce2 Ti version but I think my friend used to have a GeForce2 GTS.

All that said, I must urge you to not even CONSIDER buying any such card now, unless you just play solitare ;)

3DFX, Voodoo 5000s, Riva TnTs.

Haha, I remember the time I got a Riva TnT, it was like THE card back then, I was happy as a pig, first game I played was Rise of The Triad. I was 8 years old perhaps.

Thats is because your card only has DirectX 7 features.
While modern cards today comes with lots of gadgets to improve visual quality.
Besides, your card is beginning to show age, it was good back in the day.

As for 8500 vs GeForce 2, well I would rather buy a 9000 newer model, the 8500 has some problems in its structure, it was when ATi got their acts together and became just as good as Nvidia on quality.
But the 8500 there is no hope for, it is too old and the architecture they used has shown problems that drivers cannot fix.

The 9000 may be a bit slower on the features side (8500 had hardware truform and such, 9000 does that in software) but is compatible with the newer drivers and doesn't give you any funny problems.

As for the graphics card with the most value today for the lower end.
Go for the ATi Radeon 9800 Pro. cheap and damn good performance, can run HL2 at full settings no problem according to AFX people, also the most widespread card and will be that for some time to come.

Most power for your buck in the ATi camp is older cards.
Meet mr 9800 Pro, the beast that now comes cheap with a lot of bang.
I would have gotten that if I didn't own a Ti 4600, the card I got gives little extra bang compared to a 9800.
9800 can run HL2 at max details without any problems.

Power for a good price ;)

Sigh.. nVidia vs ATi.

They're never good outright, different games rely on different companies, like Half Life 2 to ATi and Doom 3 to nVidia.

nVidia however, now is ahead of the pack with their SLi cards, but ATi is dishing a blow back with a new system which name eludes me right now.'

(Btw, any Radeon below a 9550 is really an 8000 series card with a 9 slapped on it)

@EmptyWords: Cool it down a bit, yes?

Anyway, do you guys use modifed drivers? I reffer to Omega (for ati)? If you don't, you should try, because it really boosts up the performance.
Radeon 9000pro --> 1024x768 --> AA --> NFSU2 --> 52FPS! :D
