True, but don't forget that Ford build the GT with a 500 hp engine. That super-special-once in this life time model.

Would look stupid if you would release that GT as your topmodel and some months later come out with a mass production Mustang GT with even more HP than the GT has don't you think?

And also, 5.4L isn't very big for a V8. It's only ~330ci. A big V8 would be a 632ci. And it probably makes lots of torque.

And Mustangs aren't as heavy as you might think.

in my opinion, the Shelby always looks better than the Mustang. it may look the same, but people can tell the front is different.

maybe for the US and aussieland it is "light" but for us Europeans it isa heavy car.

btw I hoped the japanese tought all of us that you don't need a BIG engine to get a BIG hp count... and 5.4 ltr IMO is a pretty big engine...

but then again I am european... and we usually have max 5 ltr V8's and when it reaches (or near) the 6 it will be a V12.

a 632ci engine is ridiculous.. sure it may make so much power. but i dont think a stock gas tank would last you more than like 29 miles.. lol youd need to change the whole car into a rolling gas tank

no that's why they invented the lorry... to pull the trailer... so it can drive behind the muscle cars.... and refuel it when needed... (just like air to air refueling  )

It's small-ish displacement but has a big blower. Its Whipple can hit 20-ish PSI, but it's only geared to run at 8.5 stock- with something as cheap as a new belt you've got an extra 90-100hp by upping the pressure to above 10psi.

And the best thing is, the same engine is used in the aussie Falcon, so hopefully we will get the supercharged version down here. :D

And Stig, there is a lot of difference between a small jap engine and a big V8, even if they make the same power.

The jap engine will rev really high, but the V8 will have lots more torque.
Also, the jap engine will sound like a go-kart, while the V8 will sound like . . . uhhh . . . a thunderstorm during an earthquake?

OK maybe I over-exaggerated a bit

Anyway, I hope you get what I'm trying to say.

I know what you are saying and I know about torque figures on a V8 and other engines.

but still I consider a 5.x ltr a large engine... and also the torque figures aren't IMO that impressive... but then again... most US engines don't impress me much. IMO it is more a cult thing the US V8 then a really good engine.

but he thats just me

I'm from the same country as Stig, and yeah, that 5.4 liter V8 is considerd a big engine here.

Max size for a "normal"engine would be a 2 liter. Anything above it would have more cilinders. 2.5 liters are often a 5 or 6 cilinder engine

As an example, the new M5 has a 5.0 V10. Compared to the 5.4 V8 off the Shelby that would look a bit strange to most non European people I think.

European style thinking is that the bigger the engine the more cilinders it has got to have.

5.0 V10?? thats kind of stupid. very stupid actually. they can havea V8 with that much displacement. i dont understand. doesnt the V10 use more fuel?? or is it up to the displacement.

Like I said, it's European style thinking. I believe they did it to bring the F1 engine a bit closer to the normal customer, or something like that. I don't understand it either. The V8 wasn't at the end of its development cycle.

Previous M5 had a 4.4 ltr V8 (Go see NFS HP 2, it's in that game) with 400 HP. The story is that BMW is gonna plant that engine in the new M3.
