Car controversy

Post by UrQuattro »

Ok, I thought I’d make this topic so we can discuss controversial cars like "who thinks TT is a good car", or is Boxter a 'real' Porsche and so on. This way we won't flood the General room, and can flame each other over here! :)

Porsche Boxter – it is mostly for those who yet can’t afford a real Porsche. U got 40k to spend and want a Porsche – get the 993 or something. But it drives very well, u gotta give it to that.

TT – It’s not just a GOLF in a pretty package. It’s a fun to drive car, it’s got excellent styling and interior quality, and too bad it has a rep of a girl’s car. People who report to crash them – think it’s a Porsche and try driving it as such. Well it’s not! Don’t expect too much – won’t get disappointed. Audi positioned the car as Boxter competitor – which is fine Marketing wise, but a bit too much in real life. A stylish coupe, that’s all. I hate roadster version btw.

BMW Z4 & 6 and 5 series? Is that another ‘love-hate’ from BMW? The z4 is growing on me, but it’s a roadster, and I don’t like roadsters, and would never be seen in one. The 6 series I love and want to own BAD. My bank account won’t allow, but I will get there!
5 Series is a step forward [in styling] from the ugly 7, but a tiny one at that.

These are just what jumped into my mind, but probably there’s more.

Feel free to jump in, but keep it cool, and try not to insult each other.

Just thought I'd add my opinion lol.
Boxter: Gay car, for women, or men who cant afford a 911.

TT: again, bit girly for my liking, even tho its my dads dream car, but ill accept the 3.2 isnt too bad for a hairdressers car.

BMW: Z3: Gay
Z4: Not as gay as a Z3, but still fairly gay
New styling: Should have tried to make their older cars look more modern instead of ugly, altho i do like the new 6.

S2000: the only manly roadster available.

And for a bit of controversy, I know many people like it, but it was voted the third gayest car in Britain and ive always hated it, the Mazda MX5. What does everyone else think to it?

Thanks m8. Yeah, I feel the same about Miata and Z3 - I just didn't post 'gay' in case someone got offended. But absolutely!
TT is special for me and I may by one if it's black, has v6, DSG, and dark brown stitched leather interior. And if it's on 30% sale or something, !!!

The new Eclipse is too trendy, and actually ugly as hell IMO.
The RSX (HSX) and CRX - love the styling, hope both make it unchanged into production (esp. CRX - still remember my friends '94 CRX with sceeeaaaming VTI engine.

Shelby GT cobra - I am sorry, stupid yanks, WTF are they doin????!!! That car is so ugly! First time I saw it I almost had a heard attack. Just produce the old one, ya morrons!

Although the new Corvette is not bad at all.

And What about new Ford Mustang? New pics were released of a production car - it's not as radical as the concept, but kept the theme very well, and I like it as well.

i agree with most of that, except the corvette bit, which i still think is ugly. ive seen the new mustang but forgot to save the pics, its on http://www.fast-autos.net tho. and yea, americans!!! go back to producing a car that was actually designed by a british bloke!!! its ur only chance of making a good looking car lol. and about the gay bit, im sorry if u r gay, but its not my fault, and is the only way to describe a miata and z3

lol, no offence taken.

Ohhh, wait a second. I object to all Z3 being ... em, well you know. The M COUPE was awesome, tough as hell to drive (the E30 compenents afterall) and looked stunning. It's very exclusive too.

Audi TT

Nice looking Mk IV Golf. As I think has been said before, people buy one expecting it to be a Porsche...and it just isnt! The interior is really nice tho, but its just got such a 'nouveau riche' image. The DSG version seems to deliever more, but if I was in the market to buy a car of that price...the TT wouldnt even be on the damn list!

Porsche Boxster

For people who cant afford a 911 and cant comprehend how shiznit they make themselves after buying one of these. Good engine is the only thing that can be said for this car, the styling is just bad - even on the 'S' version.

Mazda MX-5

I actually like this car, there are loads of them about, but it does suffer from 'hair dresser' syndrome. In fact my gay buddie's boyf owns one...so it looks as tho you must have to take it in the bumbum to own one! I think he drives the 1600cc tho...

BMW Z3

I hated the 1.9 version with those lame steel 'alloys'. It was basicly a nice looking 3 series. Although I know of 2 people who went for the limited edition 2.8 litre version with the wide 'hips' in British Racing Green 8) Its not an out-and-out sports car, but it does have relative comfort and I like them.

BMW Z4

One of the peeps that I know who owns the Z3, has just bought the 3litre Z4 with pretty much every available option and in the cherry red (go and check it out at BMW's website!) as there are a few of them where we live - but so far all in grey. I think I'm just about the only person who likes the styling on this car, although I'm not a fan of the entire BMW range.

Fiat barchetta

 Look I know its a Fiat and only in LHD for those Euro bunch...but I've always had a soft spot for this car. I love the styling, I've seen some really nice ones. The only thing I didnt like was the plastic feel to the whole interior. Its something a little different.

Err...I think thats it for now.

couple of new ones.. the Mustang - doesn't have to be afraid of getting popular, i would still like it no matter what. What a sweet car they pulled off, hats off to Ford. And Hyundai! People, is this the best ever or what?

I dont like the Mustang, but hey I've not liked any of Ford's Mustang's apart from the old ones (like the one used in the film 'Bullit').

I do like the styling from Hyundai, but it looks a bit like the Seat Salsa concept car I saw at the British Motor Show in Nov 2002...plus its Hyundai

perhaps, everyone's got his own opinion. how about the fact that prices on the Mustang for base car will start arounf 20k USD? I think that's pretty good deal. That car captures all of the beauty of the 60's Mustangs.
And Hyundai - I changed my opinion about it once i saw it in WRC couple of years ago (that car sounded amazing). Plus it beat Porsche 911 Turbo. So out of all cheap Korean cars, this brand is best. Even the Tiburon V6 is a nice looking coupe. It's like Ford Capri in it's days', it's cheap and good looking. The concept I posted IMO has taken design cues from Lexus... Which is no bad thing! Hyundai beats Daewoo, Kia and the rest of Korea cars easily.

What do people think of the Jaguar X-type? A real Jaguar or like so many manufacturers are doing nowadays, a damn marketing campaign?

Its actually built on a Ford Mondeo only only cost £20k, which for a Jaguar is very cheap indeed.

Your opinions?!

542bhp@7200rpm
0-60: 3.8 seconds
max: 217mph

red - XJ220S TWR - only 5 ever made - 3498cc twin turbo V6
680bhp@7200rpm
0-60: 3.3 seconds

The Jaguar E-type is the best Jaguar ever. Especially the one that went above the claimed top-speed and got to 150mph...for a road car in the 60's thats damn fast!

Jaguar will never get a supercar right, they have tried and failed sooo many times. My friends Father has a deposit down on the Jaguar F-type, although I dont know if he has claimed it back...I dont think they are making that anymore, anyone remember the F-type? It had small 'bike' wing mirrors.

The XJ200 was something like £500,000 and have been sold since for as low as £50, 000 it was supposed to have a V12 in it, but in the end they stuck a V6 in it, and for anyone who has actually seen the car, they will know this isnt enough - its a firetruck' huge car! And weighed so much :(

Audi Pikes Peak is what happend to it, I think. A nice car, (Toureg/Cayan), but the color it was presented in didn't do it justice. I have pics of new A6, while testing, in production trim... just gotta find 'em...
Audi Avantissimo was nice - the Avant A8 sorta... And the Nuvolari - apparently it's going to be almost identical to the new A6 Coupe due in 2005.
I actually love all Audis, except may be the Rosemeyer Concept. Remember Audi Avus - the 1990 full aluminum car, that made the Avus rims known. Beautiful...

Where'd you find that CRX? It's nice, but I can't find any information about it..
