Carbon won't Install...Help please.

Post by Supra-Man22 »

I bought Need for Speed: Carbon Collector's Edition yesterday, and went to install it but nothing comes up. When I go to put in the disc, nothing comes up. I tried go to Run and typing in C:\autorun.exe like the guide says, but a message comes up saying that I have typed it in wrong. Could somebody help me? My computer fits the requirements, so I have no clue what this is all about.

(this is Supra-man btw, just had to get a new account.)

Most probable cause: Your DVD drive cannot read the format of the disc.

Another possible cause: Disc is damaged.

You'll have to try another computer with a better DVD drive to figure it out.

I don't put it in the DVD drive though, I put it in the C drive, I just put it in the DVD drive to see what would happen.

Wait, what?

Carbon Collectors Edition is a DVD disc. You need to put it in the DVD drive in order for it to be read.

yes, it is a dvd. but the game comes along with the dvd disc too, and the game disc won't install.

Ok, so if I'm understanding you right, the game is on CD and the bonus DVD is a dvd, right? This is contrary to everything I've read about the Collectors Edition which have said that the game will be in PC-DVD format.

An easy way to tell if it is in PC-DVD format is this: if there are multiple discs (i.e. Disc1 and Disc2 or Install Disc and Play Disc) it's PC-CD. If there's one disc for the entire game (not counting the bonus DVD) the game is PC-DVD.

First, let's see if that may be your problem. Then we'll move on from there.

Well, there are only 2 discs...the dvd one and the Game disc. I thought it would come with 4 discs to install, but it doesn't.

Then the game disc is a DVD disc. You need to put the game disc into a DVD drive on your computer.

Try a different computer. It's quite possible that the DVD is recorded in a format that your DVD drive can't read.

Look on the DVD disc itself. Near the center hole, there should be silver hologram. It should say the format in there. If you know what brand and type of DVD drive you have, go on google to find out if your DVD drive supports the DVD format.

If your computer is not reading the disc at all (i.e. there are no files even if you try to open the drive in Windows Explorer) then these two are the only possible explanations I can think of.

why would the DVD drive not be able to read it? i don't have access to another computer anyways, and the EA support thing is closed until tomorrow and tomorrow is nearly impossible for me to call. I just don't get it...so I am suppose to put the game disc in the DVD drive, and then the INSTALL screen should come up?

Yes.

Unlike CDs, there are several different commercial formats that a DVD can be recorded in. Your DVD drive has to be able to read the format in order for you to be able to install and play the game.

Wouldn't a message come up saying that it couldn't read it though? Hang on, I will try again.

No. To the computer, there is no disc in the drive. Try putting a DVD into a CD drive. You'll either get a message saying there is no disc, or nothing will happen. Same principle applies here.

I put in the DVD special features from the game in, and it worked.

You really havent eliminated any of the two possibilites I told you of. Just because one works doesn't mean the other will.

I would tell you to return the game, but since it's a PC-DVD you probably won't be able to. You may just be stuck with a very shiny coaster.
