Car customization on the Wii

I kno this sounds kind of dumb, but can u personally design cars for like quick racing outside of your career cars? i'm having difficulty finding cars that aren't already pre-made and tuned. I mean yeah, it takes a while to tune a car, but i still like making my own car to race jus with friends. Can anyone help me out here?
