Need for Speed Going Back To It's Roots?

Post by Bojan »

EA Games president Frank Gibeau recently revealed a new strategy that the EA Games will take on the Need for Speed series. Gibeau thinks that the unexpectedly low sales of ProStreet are the result of the series drifting too far from what consumers expected. Instead of giving open world police chases, ProStreet was legal closed track tuner racing. The next Need for Speed, Gibeau promises, will return to it's roots and once gain have an open world including a new 'highway battle' mode.

Unfortunatly it seems that EA doesn't recognize the first titles in the series as the roots. So forget about exotic supercars, closed world point-to-point exotic tracks like in The original Need for Speed game, but think more like the superhits Need for Speed Underground and Need for Speed Most Wanted.

These high system requirements are due to the new consoles, you'll always have higher PC requirements when new consoles arrive :)
I still hope they keep damage or at least some of the features of Pro Street :o
Also I don't care much about a open-world, but for me the tracks have to be nice and cool what Carbon wasn't realy

If they make a Most Wanted II or something, would be one of best news of 2008.

I really don't want them to make another Underground-type game. Most Wanted was awesome.

So, Frank Gibeau is saying that due to Low Sales of NFS: Pro Street and high System Requirement. They're gonna really go back to it's roots by combing NFS: (UG + UG 2) + NFS MW together to form the next NFS in the year 2008. With a New Mode "Highway Battle". Interesting fact I see. Can't wait!

What will be the next Title for NFS, hopefully rock us with raw power and high interest.

I hope the intro will be where they left off in NFS: Carbon with the Player riding Darius's Audi Leman Quattro.

I just hope EA company does screw up for the 3rd time with giving us false ads for the next NFS Title.

Let them, Powerof1000, at least we'll meet another Underground Woman #3 like Rachel and Samantha. It'll be cool to see, anyway!

When I first read that they were suggesting to bring NFS back to its roots, I was immediately thinking of High Stakes and Hot Pursuit. Unfortunately, the more I read, the more I realized that apparently, the roots of NFS are tuners and street racing. What a bunch of losers. If it's true, then I hope the next NFS will be an even bigger failure. I pretty much lost all hope for the NFS franchise (I didn't even bother playing ProStreet, with Hot Pursuit 2 and High Stakes being the only NFS games I play now)

Reading this quick article is music to my ears. I am GLAD that they are going to to the old way of Need For Speed. I wasn't a big fan of Carbon or Prostreet. I hope to get more details down they road. For me, the BEST need For Speed Title is Need For Speed Most Wanted. And it looks like I wasn't the only one, who did not enjoy these change in the Lineup. Your Thoughts!

THX NEED FOR SPEED!

Why am I suddenly reminded of Carbon? I'm expected a Carbon/Most Wanted hybrid from EA. Yuck.

Well, to me, ProStreet was a game worth playing. Not perfect, but OK.

They should make the next one that involves elements from Carbon and Most Wanted. I didn't get a chance to play neither.

This might be a good move for EA, taking the tuner hype and making a game that I hope will top ProStreet. Let's see if they can really execute...

This sounds like a novel idea, but history has proven that what sounds to us like a novel idea usually ends up being an EA flop.

I hope it's in the daytime. All of my least favourite NFS games were at night.

You mean from Underground 1 onwards, right?

Why not they make just both day and Night integrate itself in the Series? And don't forget about the Weather. In every NFS series had weather like rain except for Carbon and Prostreet. I hope they make different types of weather system than just Medium rainy days on the open world.

Yeah UG1, UG2, Carbon, they are my least favourite NFS's. I think EA should do Most Wanted 2 or similar, including most of their new features etc :?

Thats good because PS really sux even after i upgraded to 2gb ram and finally ran the game its still sucked the gameplay was not even attractive to me so i still play carbon they should just make a carbon 2 without tiers and make it with good cars and new tracks police and replays and no glitches maybe thats to much to ask or expect from EA

I kinda developed a love-hate relationship with PS, but looking at the article somehow, gives me this feeling of that they will mix the UG series with MW with Carbon with PS.

I was quite excited when I first read the title… but it turns out they actually weren’t talking about their roots at all, just the start of their ricing/tuning era. Yikes… when will they learn? At least if they are planning on doing an open world game (again), maybe they should try creating something simular to Test Drive Unlimited. MOOR, with exotic supercars? :) .

heh, doubt that :x
