This game is going to rock! It seems the storyline is similar but hey, I only played HL1 about 5years ago and I dont remember it LOL. And I have never played CS.....
I hope I can play HL2 without problems!

yeah it continues where Half-life 1 left off.! (weird ending... )
story in Half-life 1:
you are a scientist in a big secret lab! in the middle of the Nevada Desert!
while doing a test with a inter dimensional system, there was a srew-up and a Portal to a other dimesion was opened!
so big ugly aliens come over and ruin your day... kill loads of people there and run amock!
you get a weapon from a security guard that is killed in front of you by a zombi... so from that moment on you start shooting up the basterds!
halfway in the game (as all games the basterds get bigger and) you get a new Enemy: The US marines are coming to shut down the whole Lab! with force and make sure nobody and nothing is living there anymore
INCLUDING YOU!
later on you go to the Alien Dimension and kill the big ALIEN SCUMBAG leader (ofcourse huge)
then the game ends in a weird end! (can't explain only people who played it know what I mean.... but to be short it is a rather open ending
the best thing about the game was you could interact with the other people that worked there... and it functions like a movie... things are moving all around you and continue the story while you walk past...
was IMO the best shooter of that time
so what I know is about HL2
you are the same person as in Half-life 1.
and the bad aliens are back... (how... dunno)
but they are not in a huge lap in the desert but in a big city....
so shooting time!

yeah I got the whole set
Halflife (game of the year edition) Opposing force, and Blueshift
I liked Opposing force it was more fun IMO and the marines looked wicked and where pretty funny!
blueshift you play one of the security guards, fun but also short and a weird story... end: you are outside with some other workers... and escape??
but the opgrade it did on HL and opposing force was wicked!
the guns looked better and all the GFX was better...

HL 1, know it in and out, why? I have been playing Counter-Life, HL single Player story with CS weapons.
Whats so special about it? Well it is fun blasting aliens with an M4 or M249, but in the end it got so much routine for me that I only pointed the gun at a specific point at the wall and fired, on the other side I heard my enemy hit the floor.
I knew where every one would be, instinctivly, still I found it to be a funny game, and I still do.
Though my friends calls me the HL SP god, though I have only played it too much
