the 64 bit P4 isnt gonna come out in a while so its no use waiting. good monitor companies are NEC, LG, Samsung and BenQ, i think they make the best.

and dot pitch is the distance between the dots on the monitor. the smaller the better i think.

intel has just released a new version of pentium 4. i'm sure they'll wait a bit longer to release a 64 bit chip :P maybe give till mid-next year it'll be released. and i bet knowing intel, its gonna be damn expensive.

Ever heard of AMD?

and btw, if you're getting a new monitor then it's better to get a CRT.
They are cheaper, and have better colour and better refresh rates.
And it shouldn't really matter which brand you get, because they are all pretty good these days.

Only buy an LCD if you are cramped for space on your desk.

i stay away from lcd's, theyre too fragile for the little kids if you have any around the house. (one of the reasons why i dont like laptops in particular either)
they're great for movies and all that. but with games i recomend to stick with the good old CRT monitor because there is always lag in the refresh rate of an LCD monitor, unless you buy a top end one, which i reckon you can go for right now i'd say

EmptyWords wrote:oh, well i bought a 19"CRT from envsion, it was horrible. i needed the resolution to be 1600x1200 (max) to even make it look like a normal screen, and even then the screen looked like crap, the dot pitch sucked i guess, im preety happy with my old 15" phillips magnavox (which i got like 8 years ago) id like a LCD with the same colors, adn same look, just a bit larger screen would be nice.. right now im not getting anything, but im thinking of things to get, casue i cant stand my comp.. yes i have heard of AMD, but sure theres a athalon 64 which is 64 bit, but its AGP, and DDR, where as P4 is PCIE and DDR2... not all but i can get that, and thats what i want, i want soemthign that will last me a bit, or at least is not so crappy, cause all of my life i never got anything good, and now i just want soemthing good that will last me for at least 2 years
oops wrong button i meant to edit it..... i meant CRT not LCD, if a mod coudl please delete the post before this one

nowadays, computers never last two years, at least not for me :P. i would suggest you get P4 for PCIE though. microsoft aint gonna release windows xp 64 bit edition till lat next year. and its more expensive as well.
if you want an LCD, i'd say go for BenQ or Samsung.

athlon 64 is a bit faster, but its the platform we're talking about. 64 bit is supposedly for more power. but they only work for 64 bit OS and applications. which there aren't much of now BTW.
and the athlon xp range has died out so if you choose that, then theres ver little upgrade choice afterwards

OK . . .

back on topic:
Yes AMD 64 is better, but if you want PCIE and DDR2 then you'll have to get an AMD FX-53 or somthing similar. And the FX-53 cost A LOT.

So maybe P4 is the way to go.

Why a FX-53? Take a 64 3000+. This one beats all models if you overclock it.

I don't know if it's compatible with DDR2.

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, it's socket 939.

Double videocard. Only NVidia supports it. I don't know if ATI is going with it too.

P4--PCIE--DDR2
AthlonXP--AGP8x---DDR
Athlon64--AGP8x---DDR

thats the main ones. the FX-53 is a bit too expensive for my liking. so unless AMD chooses to make it's boards compatible with PCIE and DDR, i'm staying away from upgrading for now. it's too confusing.
i also hear that Nvidia is making new Nforce boards with PCIE and DDR2. but i'm not sure when it will come out.
