Ever heard of AMD?
and btw, if you're getting a new monitor then it's better to get a CRT.
They are cheaper, and have better colour and better refresh rates.
And it shouldn't really matter which brand you get, because they are all pretty good these days.
Only buy an LCD if you are cramped for space on your desk.

i stay away from lcd's, theyre too fragile for the little kids if you have any around the house. (one of the reasons why i dont like laptops in particular either)
they're great for movies and all that. but with games i recomend to stick with the good old CRT monitor because there is always lag in the refresh rate of an LCD monitor, unless you buy a top end one, which i reckon you can go for right now i'd say

athlon 64 is a bit faster, but its the platform we're talking about. 64 bit is supposedly for more power. but they only work for 64 bit OS and applications. which there aren't much of now BTW.
and the athlon xp range has died out so if you choose that, then theres ver little upgrade choice afterwards

P4--PCIE--DDR2
AthlonXP--AGP8x---DDR
Athlon64--AGP8x---DDR
thats the main ones. the FX-53 is a bit too expensive for my liking. so unless AMD chooses to make it's boards compatible with PCIE and DDR, i'm staying away from upgrading for now. it's too confusing.
i also hear that Nvidia is making new Nforce boards with PCIE and DDR2. but i'm not sure when it will come out.
