Sorry for the double post but i have some news here 8)

GameSpot's Q&A - Under the hood (PC)

Image

After outselling Halo 2 to become last year's hottest video game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is heading to the PC next week. And don't be surprised that the PC version looks a lot better than the PS2 version, as the game has been modified to take advantage of the PC's strengths, such as larger memory capacity, higher-resolution graphics, and more-powerful hardware. This means that you'll be able to play as CJ, the protagonist in San Andreas, in sharper detail than before, as you explore the different cities of the game and live the '90s gang life in high style. To give us the lowdown on some of the new modifications in San Andreas as well as those made for the PC version, we caught up with several of Rockstar North's development team. Also, take note that we'll have the second part of our Q&A this Friday.

Q&A
4 new Screenshots

Enjoy 8)

The one thing i especially liked in the PS2 version was the fact that there were no loading times(except when you enter a house/building).I'm sure the PC version will have that aswell. But i wonder why other games don't have such features.I imagine playing Doom 3 or Half Life 2 without encountering a single loading screen. It would have been awesome.

Thnx for the updates mate, I'd do some of them myself, but I'm in the middle of my exam period, so I haven't really had the time for it... :(
I don't have any torrent programs, so I'll have to install one of them before I can see the video... Shouldn't take too long tho

And btw, part 2 of the Q&A is online... :)

Why did you triple post ?, you can edit your posts, anyway, nice post(s)
just like the ones i posted before, anyway, here are some ingame screenshots:

http://images.gtanet.com/images/1868.jpg
http://images.gtanet.com/images/1869.jpg
http://images.gtanet.com/images/1870.jpg
http://images.gtanet.com/images/1871.jpg

Note: These pics were taken on a P4 3.4 cpu, 2GB RAM, GeForce 6800, with resolution 1280x1024, AA= 2x

Some confirmed stuff about the game :

- The game have an option to enable MipMapping.

- Anti Aliasing can be adjusted from the display options in the game.

- Just as in the PS2 version, the number of cars and peds that are allowed onscreen at the same time are controlled by the time of day in popcycle.dat, a file in the data folder. However, at peak traffic times, the maximum number of cars possible onscreen has been bumped from 10 for the PS2 to 18 for the PC, and this number can be modified!

- Frame limiter apparently defaults to 25 frames per second, but you can turn it off and the framerate will stay between 35-50 (on a good PC) and textures actually load correctly when disabling it unlike GTA III and Vice City.

- I recieved word that the file timecyc.dat controls maximum and fog draw distance, and is modifiable.

- GTA3.IMG, the file that stores all of the textures and models in the game, is three times larger than Vice City's, coming in at 940MB.

- More surprising is that this huge game has a 15MB filesize for the root file that starts the game.

- You can modify many files in the data folder in easier ways than seen in Vice City.

Here is some Q&A with Nav0micron, the first one who got the PC version:
Have you been following San Andreas news prior to the release before you saw the game?
Yes, it made holding off buying a PS/2 hard, I liked the first 2 a lot, I have them both on PC and Vice City for the Xbox.

How did you end up finding the game in Walmart? Were you there just by accident?
No, it was mentioned in a SomethingAwful post, I'm looking for the original poster. "Krakken" picked it up Friday night at his local Wal-mart. I was there and thought I'd check just on a whim, I got lucky-they had probably 6 copies right underneath a big sign proclaiming the June 7th release date. I grabbed 2 and verified they were the real deal and then I checked for Xbox versions, they had none out.

What was your initial reaction? You knew someone else had gotten the PC version at Wal-mart but were you still surprised?
I was really surprised since I had only seen that one other guy had posted about finding it. I called up a friend of mine and asked if he wanted me to buy him a copy, he didn't believe me. Another friend went tonight after seeing me play and called me from the store, either they had pulled them or sold them all.

Is there still a frame limiter option in the display setup?
Yes, the frame rate is locked at 25 with it enabled.

Have you tried switching it off and do you experience any slowdowns?
Game fluctuates between 35-50 with the Limiter disabled at 1280x1024x32 with all options maxed and 2x AntiAliasing.

Do the textures load alright in the game? In Vice City PC particularly with powerful graphics cards and at high resolutions the textures take a few seconds to load.. is this also the case with San Andreas on the PC?
You have to really look for it to notice it usually. Some spots it's worse then others (like the countryside where there is less visual clutter then the cities). Pop-up doesn't really bother me, but San Andreas fades things in from the fog plane so it's a lot smoother on your eyes.

What does the packaging look like? From the scans you posted earlier it looks like there is a hardcover manual?
Yes, 78 pages, it reads like a travel brochure-suggesting where to eat and what to see. There is also a single DVD and a big poster with CJ holding a gun on the front and a world map on the back.

Any gameplay observations you would like to add?
Well the cars like to fishtail a lot, but I'm going to assume that's because I have a very low driving skill, I've spent all my time on the bicycle so far. I like the motorcycles better in San Andreas, it's a lot easier to stay on the bike then it was in Vice City. Unlike Vice City you can destroy a good number of objects-fences break apart, light poles will break down into their components.

I guess the cops don't care about gangbangers as much, I noticed I can get away with a fair amount of mayhem as long as a cop doesn't physically witness me committing crimes.

Oh, and there is something else I haven't mentioned so I haven't seen it anywhere else, the controls are way different from Vice City. You have full control of the mouse when driving (unless you have mouse steer on) so you need to recenter your camera while driving. It takes some getting used to.

cant wait to get my copy on the 14th :(

The game didnt leak out, Just some stores started selling it early one day, its not a problem in my opinion.

you can say the game has leaked, when some copies are stolen from the company 2 weeks or 3 before the official release date just like what happened with the PS2 version 8)

and btw i posted that Install shield screenshot in my previous post
