[Humild suggestion from a normal member]Well the simpler the better. No ratings in normal Showroom. Ratings in SRC. Done.[/Humild suggestion from a normal member]

Oh sorry, here I'm again acting like if I created this site, isnt it? Image

NO, Im not.

I'm acting like an active member. Active users normally participate giving out ideas comments and suggestions. Sometimes we suggest illogical things, but others we are helpful. Look at the Challenge ideas thread, most of the SRChallenges come from normal users' ideas.

Passive users just do nothing and criticize whoever has a new idea, no matter if it's good or bad. I dont like to be passive, but sometimes it seems it is better to be like that in order not to get flamed by others.

Yeah, I agree that It would be best if there's no voting in the showroom. What's the point of this votes anyway :?:
Every car must receive points for winning a duel. This way It would be harder to upvote or downvote because It depends on more people whether the car goes up or down the rankings. With the current voting system if I give a car 1pts It immediately goes down but If the rankings were based on duels then the only thing I could do is to vote for the other car and hope that the rest of the users will vote for the same car I did.
I've two suggestions for the moment:
1)The points may be based on your opponents ranking. You should get more points for winning a duel against the 1st ranked car then winning against the last.
or
2)You might directly get your opponents position and push him one place down. If you've won the duel then your ride is better than his so there is no reason for him to be ranked higher than you. There's one catch here. The Higher ranked car does not win anything for winning against that crappy low ranked ride. This might be a problem because the high ranked cars may refuse the challenges from lower ranked and then everything stalls at it's current place and nobody goes up or down. The solution I think is that the higher ranked car should not be able to refuse the challenges from lower ranked cars. The high ranked car is better and there's no reason to be afraid of duel with lower ranked car, am i right ?

The second one is the better IMO because It will really make the good cars go high in the rankings and the worse cars to stay down.

let me tell you all one simple thing don't worry about ranking cause for SR3 there will be no ranks! you can vote but that is it is more for the creator of the car to see what they think of it... *they is voters*

so you don't need 6 votes to get ranked or you can get into the top 10 cause there is no top 10 or even a top 100

I don't really bother to vote on crappy cars, and i don't vote that much only when people ask me to if they have voted on my garage. And i voted on friends cars when they get new ones. But i agree no ranking systeem with SR3 is a good idea.

Q: Does make sense to rate only the good cars?
A: NO!

actually, i rate all the cars that catch my eye,and i truly know is a ten. the only times i rate lower than 8 is when i am going through the cars in someones garage, and 1 of them is just not goodor is plain good!
so anwer is: yes, because why would you want to rate something you dont like?

Well the point of the ratings system is to say 'This is what I think about this car - I think it is (awesome / good / ok / mediocre / terrible), not just to suck up to people so you can hang with the cool kids. If you look at my car and don't rate it, then how do I know whether you haven't rated it because you just haven't seen it yet or because you thought it was crap. If I have ten people rate my car a 10, then I'll think - 'hey, that's a pretty good car', when if they just happen to be the only ten people in the world who like my car and it's actually not very popular at all, then how would I know?

Why would you rate something you didn't like? Well you would rate it *low* - there are ratings lower than 8 you know!

I really think one thing we should have to improve the ratings system, is to display next to each users name the average rating they give so we can see who the upvoters really are.

i'm with fishwiz, i only rate cars i'm sure i will like. ever so often i give a good or average car a nice little ocmment and a 6-7... if it's not perfect i don't give it a 10, plain and simple.

another opinion of mine is that tastes differ in this showroom. moderators telling people that giving a 10 is upvoting, yet they thought the car was flawless, that is NOt i repaeat NOT upvoting because it was someone's honest opinion on a car. now if the person says itt could do with a few changes and this and that and give it a 10, then i say it's upvoting taking place.

Noone saying 10 is upvoting. Constant 8-10 is upvoting same as constant 1-4 are downvoting.

Your votes should vary, at least in as 4-10 imo. I mean you always can get onto some car you simply cant give any good rating.

I really think that if you are going to have a ratings system - and I don't think having a ratings system is a bad idea - that you need to have some way of saying that a 10 from someone who almost always gives 5-7's and who averages 6's is worth a lot more than someone who always gives 8-10's and averages 9. I really think that is the best way to go and shouldn't be too hard, it would just be a bit of calculation, automatically done by the site (eg if we say 'vote' is the number (1-10) *I* give your car, 'finalvote' is the final vote your car gets from me, and 'average' is the average of all the votes I have made on all the cars I've voted on, then when I click the 'vote now' button, the site would do the calculaion:

'finalvote' = 'vote' + (6 - 'Average')

To get my vote on that car. Probably the easiest thing to do would be to keep a total of my total votes and number of votes cast (eg, if I've voted on four cars and given them 6 8 7 9 respectively then my 'totalvote' is 30 and my 'average' is 30 / number of votes I've cast (4) which gives me an average of 7.5. So when I vote on a car, the following happens:

'finalvote' = 'vote' + (6 - 'Average')
(which is say 9 + (6 - 7.5) giving me a finalvote on that car of 7.5)

My totalvotes goes up to 39, numvotes goes up to 5 and so next time I vote my average will be 7.8.

The more 9's I give, the higher that average will be, and so my vote will be worth less.

This system has the distinct advantage of that the kids who want to only vote 10's on their mates cars can and their votes will be worth six. (average vote).

The main way of abuse for this system would be people then voting up their mates cars with 10's, and picking random cars from others and voting them 1's. One possible fix for this, could be that for each car, the highest and lowest 10% of votes is ignored, that would require a bit more work though as you would then need to remember every vote cast for every car (though I suspect this might be stored somewhere already if the admins can pick down or upvoters?).

The other thing I would support, is publishing votes. Rather than having voting and commenting on a car as two distinct features, when you vote on a car you should also have a 'comment' field there to fill in before you hit the 'vote' button. Your vote would then be published in the comments section, and if you chose to also leave a message, that would appear there too. You could then subsequently leave further comments (to participate in a conversation on a car), but you would have to vote once first in order to be able to leave comments.

I also think we should scrap guest voting, it is useless and only encourages down / upvoting. If a guest to the site cares enough to vote on a car, they should register / login to have access to that feature.

Actually, I generously hand out nines and tens only because anything less drops the ranking significantly and if i think it's good ('7' for you, sparco...), WHY should i lower it's ranking? I don't really mind when people vote harshly, as long as they vote honestly and give some advice. and i REALLY hate it when people vote harshly because you voted theiur car a seven... RZN is a good example...decided to be an bumbum when i gave his 350Z a seven... yeesh
ogo wrote:I agree that the current ranking system is a joke the way it is being treated. One idea I had, which might be hard to implement, but which might help would be if when you vote a car, you give it whatever vote you like, but then that is adjusted by your other votes so that your votes come out something like this:

10 - 1%
9 - 4%
8 - 10%
7 - 20%
6 - 30%
5 - 20%
4 - 10%
2 - 4%
1 - 1%
Also, this wouldn't work well because people have differing ideas of what makes a good car.

It once got so bad, that my 7th rating on a #1 car, was a 7, and it still was #1..

But I agree with Sparco, the voters here SUCK. :P

that is because everyone who doesn't use common sense thinks like you!

if everyone votes a good car a 7 the rating wouldn't DROP! and only REALLY good cars would be on top (that almost everyone thinks are perfect! and the it would not be that cars with a average 8.8 would be ranked 1200! (on the edge of being super ugly (cause cars that where build to be ugly are 1400+!!

but luckely we got rid of the whole ranking system cause it is pretty clear people here can't vote fair... so no more ranking for NFS MW

Juicedunlimited also has SR3 but expect the NFS version to be difirent (difirent game, and we got time to improve it yet again, the juiced showroom is sort of a test version, to see what goes well and what the flaws are.
