Grez~Supra_RZ-S if you are so clever and know so much about cars thenn why I dont see your post whenn is discussion about engines, turbo, ecu, drivetrain or something else.
Youre right, I know absolutely nothing about cars. My lack of knowledge allowed me to build a track-spec car within two weeks. How stupid of me, I wish I was as intelligent as you when it comes to matters like this, as itd have taken me only 5 minutes.

This coming from the guy who said no Golfs were AWD.

My technical posts arent invisible, just take a look:

http://forum.nfsunlimited.net/viewtopic ... &start=360

That for example, where me and Bogan were debating Turbocharging Vs Supercharging.

http://forum.nfsunlimited.net/viewtopic ... &start=340

http://forum.nfsunlimited.net/viewtopic ... &start=300

In fact, Im not going to continue, have you ever actually looked in the technical discussion thread?

Along with Bogan, Hecubus, Drewb99 and the Stig, there arent many real petrolheads on this site, just car fans. You however, have your own category, 'know-it-all'. Chuck falls into your category too.

I'm not a petrolhead and I admit it.
I would like to learn somewhere :P

Well, about the Golf vs 206 discussion. I'm sick of the so-hyperexcited-attitude on every guy about the Golf. For crying it loud! That egg with wheels is not THAT powerful. I have been driven in a Golf (1.8 if Im not wrong) and it's just an average car. I'm pretty sure I can beat it with a 1.6 206, 110hp if I drive it properly.

The engines in VW models are practically the same than Audi and Seat, since they'll are in the same group. There are just little differences and a few adjustements to each car. Basically it's like this:

Audi > VW > Seat

So the Audi A3 owns big time the Golf. All the A3 are AWD if Im not wrong. The new FSI engines rock, while the FSI models on the Golf are not as effective... Not to mention the A3 looks too much better than the Golf unless you're a ricer.

Any 206 is lighter than any Golf, recognize it or not I dont care. And yet again the 206 RC makes 180hp isnt it enough? Well, it seems nobody is happy unless they drive a 600hp car

Wow, theyve managed to make that R32 uglier than the old one. That takes some serious devotion.

all A3s are not AWD. the FSI engines in A3 have the same power output as in the golf. but ofcourse the A3 looks better and i agree, i would rather have the 206RC than the golf 4 GTI (the golf 5 GTI has more power so i would take that if that would be the one you compared to)
oh and you forgot skoda, it belongs to VAG too

They said a 1.8 Golf is powerful? : |

For your ''I can beat the 1.8 Golf with a 1.6 206'':

Volkswagen Golf MKIV 1.8 Trendline
125 bhp, 170 Nm, 1166 kg. 0-60 in 9.9 seconds.

Peugeot 206 XS 1.6-16v.
110 bhp, 147 Nm, 1002 kg. 0-60 in 9.4 seconds.

Anyone (People that can drive... *cough*) can beat a Golf in a 206. Quite a difference in weight. There are many factors next to displacement that decide if you win or not.

You said ''SO'' the Audi A3 owns big time the Golf. ( It's ''owns the Golf big time'', btw.. -_-' ) Care to explain why it owns the Golf, because you only said ''SO'' next to the ''Audi > VW > Seat'' thing which isn't a good reason? D:

The 2.0 FSI engine for both the A3 and MKV Golf is exactly the same. You can't flame people for ricers if they like the Golf more than the A3. It's a matter of taste. Respect other opinions. >_>
Any 206 is lighter than any Golf, recognize it or not I dont care. And yet again the 206 RC makes 180hp isnt it enough? Well, it seems nobody is happy unless they drive a 600hp car

As said, the Golfs are heavy cars. Surprising really, as they dont have the best amenities inside the car.

However, I would have a MK1 GTi, purely because theyre reaching classic status. Itd be worth buying one, restoring it and then selling it on.

I mean that everyone on this site wants to drive a Ferrari or something like that. Each time I talk about a 110hp ride someone says "YO! That car is crap! only 110bhp!" And we are supposed to be talking about a 1st car

In my opinion, 110bhp is quite a lot for a first car. My friends cars varied from 55bhp to 117bhp. I had the highest at 169bhp, although that soon broke. Now I still have the highest at 261bhp, although I pay more than triple everyone else for my insurance.

I started out with 214hp, but it worked out to about 160 at the wheels (the Ultradrive is a crap transmission, it's inefficient and unreliable). Plus, it was in a nose-heavy fwd car that weighed 3500lbs. I'm not stupid enough to get myself into trouble with that.

And, yeah, as many have said, don't aim too high for your first car. Keep all the financial aspects in mind (along with your lack of ability to drive as a noob behind the wheel). You've got to pay for the car, for gas (expensive on any car with even a bit of preformance - you're either using alot of it, or buying 91 octane), repairs and general mainenance (again, aim too high, and parts can get very expensive), and worst of all, insurance (even on my Intrepid, if I had my own policy, I'd be spending more on insurance each year than I spent on the car itself - think of how bad it'd be if you had something that screamed sports car). And that's just the cost of the car alone. After that, factor in money for leisure activites (what, are you just going to drive your car around all the time, and do absolutely nothing else? even I'm not that obsessed), and post-secondary education, if that's in the cards for you. If you've got the money to pay for everything listed there, I envy you. Otherwise, focus on cheaper, more resonable cars that are still fun to drive.

Thats probably what most European countries should do. Admittedly, itd mean me not being able to have my car, but Ive had a few friends crash their cars simply because theyre too powerful for them.

As hecubus said, dont buy a sporty car unless youre prepared to live by your car. Payouts on the car alone sap up approximately 80% of my wage per week, leaving a small amount to pay for food, and going out on a night.

I was thinking about getting a 280zx for my first car  and I still might do that if I find one at the right price.

In The Netherlands there are 3 things that makes driving pretty damn expensive:

roadtax
insurance
petrol

roadtax on the car is based on the weight of the car the heavier the more you pay, it doesn't matter if it is fast or big. and weightsaving bij stripping stuff isn't helping eighter, cause the price is based on the official weight.

Insurance: is based on your own age, the price of the car (original price when it was new (doesn't matter if it is 10 years old or new you always pay for the original price, and get paid the current price (in other words you are f*cked)
it is not directly based on performance but most high performance cars are expensive (or where in their days...) and if you are under 25 you pay extra above the normal price, cause you are a risc factor!

petrol: don't even get me started on that. if you think the prices in the US are high atm... double it and add some more and you know our price

we have no minimum age to drive high performance cars, but we do for Motorbikes you can only drive a 25kw bike if you are under 21 or for 2 years if you are above 21 (above 21 you can also do a exam with a bike above 25kw and then you have no restrictions!)

but the insurance will make sure not many yough people will buy a car like a Supra or anything. (not that you can get them here often! and the selling price of 30.000 euro doesn't help eighter (for a Supra that is))

For Insurance: you always pay a full price in my country too. We are all f*cked.
And the weight of car in not factor that sets the price of roadtax in my country.
We have classes and if you have powerfull car then you have to pay a lot!
But if you have a crap and car that is practicly 65hp you pay a litlle!
First thing is ccm and hp that set the price of all other facts, and Insurance.
You can pay 50% of Insurance but when you crash then they pay you 50% of damage that is done to your car , but if you pay 100% then they also if you crash pay you 100% of damage to your car and if you are guilty thenn the pay other car that is damaged in crash to fix the damage.

i dont know alot about finnish car insurance bcs i dont have a car but i know that if you dont crash u get bonuses, like lets say 5%... then the insurance company takes 5% away from the insurance and if you dont crash for a long time then your bonus can reach 75% (which is the case in my family  ) then you only have to pay 25% of the original insurance cost... but ofcourse the insurances are very high here, and we have to pay diesel-tax is we drive a diesel engine powered car (depending on the car but i would say it's normally around 400€ a year, thats why there are far more gas driven cars here) and the gas and the diesel it self cost damn much ( the station near my house sells E95 for 1,27€, E98 for 1,307€ and diesel for 0,997€ per litre... ) aaaaand last but not least only denmark has more expensive cars than finland in europe... (for example: golf mk5 1,4litre starting model= something like 19k€ and E90 bmw 318i= about 35k€.....)

In here you can only have 50% of bonus! If you can get 75% or more that would be bad for insurance company they could bankrot  ! You dont carsh you get bonus and dont have to pay  ! And gas and diesel prices are close to yours. Lets say Å koda Favorit! My friend has pay to registry car 600 euro  ! And car have 63hp and its 1.3
And think how much you have pay to registry M3  !!!! OR JEEP   !!! And Hummer H2! You cant registry him in my country  ! You can buy golf (1.4,75hp) from shop for about 16000 euro  !
And sportline 2.0 for 24000 euro    !!!!!!!!!!

here you can get a lowered insurance also if you don't do any damage (or don't report it...and pay it yourself with small damage it is better not to report it to the insurance company or else you loose a part of your bonus)
if I am not mistaken you can get up to 70% less after x years. atm I got around 50% I am not sure (I got a instant bonus cause I am a driving instructor and they asume that we are good drivers in our own cars (the company cars are expensive in Insurance cause they are damaged sometimes (and the Insurance company knows it happens with driving lesson cars so they are standard high... :?

atm I don't have a car anymore I gave back the 206 2 weeks ago cause I quit where I worked. now I work at the Dutch postal service... and making plans to start my own company....
you think why not stay with your original company and save money there, well my contract said that I could not start a company in this city for 2 years after I quit. so I am thinking of starting one in a city nearby or something else have to look at my options
