A detective at the scene of the crime pretty much summed it up:
"There is a small percentage who have difficulty separating reality and simulation, fantasy. It's a very, very small percentage," he said. "This was not the game's fault. There are millions who play this game and don't go out and do this."

So a guy died...thousands die each day and you don't see their stories. There's nothing special about this story.

I don't think these 2 should be jailed and kept in prison for life. I think they should be sent to a special program that try to help them and solve their problems, so this won't happen again. It is proven that if a person is kept more than 3 years in prison, it would actually worsen their state of mind. I read in another article that these 2 are at universities. So they did a really stupid thing (you never race during the day because the streets are busier) but this was a habit only in young men, so I don't think they should suffer their whole lives and it would be a better solution to help them solve any problems they had so it won't happen again.

The modern society keeps on relying to prison for punishing offenders which is dumb. They should try to help people, try curing them.
Yes, prison don't work and cost taxpayers money.
I prefer China style of justice. Trial in the morning, appeal in midday, execution in the afternoon.
Cost effective and also served as population control.

I think some of you misses one minor detail here... Those two guys will have to live with the fact that they killed someone for the rest of their life. It's not like they planned to go out and kill someone, maybe they didn't even think there would be anyone there. And if they DID plan it, they wouldn't have used cars like that for it... So hanging them or putting them in the chair is definitely not the right way to go here... These guys will need some serious help over the next years, and if it's a civilized country, they will get it. At least they'll get some help.

Do I defend what they did? No, what they did was stupid. They killed someone who just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, and they wrecked a rather expensive car and a taxi. But worthy of a death penalty? No.

"... parents giving Mercedes to their kids should be shot on sight."
No. Whats the difference between giving a kid a commodore or a Merc. Mercs would probably be the safer option as they have better technology than the Aussie car. It could have happened in a barina or punto as well. It's not the car that kills but the mentality of the drivers.
Driver education and discipline is the key to saving lives.
Secondly, if anyone is dumb enougth to put their lives and others at risk because they did it in a game, they shouldn't be driving, they should be in a MENTAL HOSPITAL! Why anbybody would blame a game is still a mystery to me.

ya. poor taxi driver, died because of stupidity of two other people. their life must suck now, knowing that they killed someone and it was their own stupiditys fault. but blaming the game? the people who blame the game can go jump a cliff... it sucks for a lot of need for speed fans knowing that there is a possibility of a ban of street racing games.

I can see Jack Thompson at it again. Like it was said before, there is a small group of people who cannot distinguish imaginary from reality. Because this small group goes out into the real world and do stupid things is no reason to ban videogames. This group of people need psychiatric.

I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often. I mean since NFS came out, 10 years ago, this is the first ever case of street racing related to the game. But let's face it, EA shouldn't be the one to blame (well you could blame them 'cause they didn't put damage in. If they would have put damage in, maybe they would have realized that cars are not invincible). Even the "Fast and the Furious" games are more liable than the NFS games.

EDIT: Fishwhiz, don't worry, they won't ban racing games just because of once accident. Like I've said, this is the first EVER accident related to the franchise. Plus, idiots like Jack Thompson are too busy to ban games like GTA, Bully and other "violent" shooting games.

Oh, Ok! Good. I don't want EA or NFS getting in trouble for those stupid kids in their wannabe daddy cars.

I feel sorry about the family of the taxi driver  . Hopefully though, the game was not responsible according to what Josie Maran says at the beginning of the intro video.

Did anybody actually listen to Josie's "message"? I have yet to see that video. I guess whenever I want to play MW, I can't wait to play and always skip the videos.

In all the NFS games, it forces you to watch the video the first time, you can't skip it, but after that you can. Anyway, all the warning videos are all the same, so I didn't really listen. :P

I think death is a bit much, but a severe beating for his incompitence(sp?) sounds about right.

The driver was driving a Mercedes. You should know about Mercedes' safety features... It's much a higher standard compared to a piece of crap taxi car. ;)

We still have the calssic LTI FX4 taxis (as well as knackered old Corollas, Cavaliers and Carinas used by the dodgey mini-cab firms).

The LTI FX4 is a symbol of our country tho - I think they are pretty cool. Like the RouteMaster bus, which has sadly been scrapped. Scrapping symbols of your once-great country just about sums up what is wrong with Blair's Britain.

They probably haven't been tought how to handle a car at speed. But a merc? why?
Are there're parents stupid?
They had probably only driven cars with a fair amount of power with power steering. They should've been tought how to drive in a car with no power on dirt, You certainly learn how to drive a car with throttle usage and how you steer.
