im only gonna go for ATI cards... sorry nVidia fans, but i'm an ATI lover at heart...

i dont want to buy from circuit city either, but almost all the other stores i've looked at don't have those cards (or anything equivalent) in AGP form...

right now, i'm thinking the X700 Pro over the AIW... i looked at a product comparison on ATI's website, and it seems to be the better of the two in terms of graphics processor power

These days i wouldn't even concider buying an Ati card.
All of their cards loose to nVidia cards with the same price.
And that's a fact.

when it comes to computers, there's three things that i always go with: AMD, Kingston, and ATI. over the years, those have proved the most stable to me.

i've decided upon the ATI card. i've read at least 10 reviews comparing the X700 Pro to the 6600GT, and they ranked about the same when it came to real in-game performance, although benchmarks disagreed. since real in-game performance is what matters, i think i'm definitely gonna go with the Radeon X700 Pro.

Ill vouch for that.

while you may not get top notch out of ATI at times, Ive never had graphical problems like with my Nvidias...

The X700 Pro doesn't even come close to the 6600GT, but whatever you want to believe ...

X700 Pro:
Core - 420 MHz x 8 Pipelines = 3360 MPixels/s
Memory - 864 MHz x 128-bit = 13.824 GB/s
Shader/Vertex Model = 2.0/2.0

6600GT:
Core - 500 MHz x 8 Pipelines = 4000 MPixels/s
Memory - 900 MHz x 128-bit = 14.4 GB/s
Shader/Vertex Model = 3.0/3.0

Where exactly are you getting these "real in-game" results ?

In my experience, the 6600GT > X700 Pro in everything ...

Those numbers don't always tell which is better...

But here's some test for you:

http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/174/1/

From the last page:
"Directly compared to the the 6600 GT both cards have some advantages and disadvantages. But make no mistake, considering it's equal price the GeForce 6600 GT does have the overall lead in performance and it has a newer feature set (Shader Model 3)."

They almost always do, especially for modern games ... and the 6600GT was equal to or better than the X700 Pro in every game in that review ...

The only advantages to the X700 Pro is it has 6 vertex shaders and is easier to find in a 256 MB version.

ATI Radeon X700 Pro
ATI All-In-Wonder 2006

My system specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ at 2.20 GHz
1GB DDR RAM
400 Watt PSU
ASUS K8N MoBo with only AGP slots (I need the PCI slots for other things)

i just want to know which one among those two cards would be better for me. note, that i use my computer for purposes other than just gaming. what i'm worried about is which card has the least bottleneck on my PC.

any ideas?
you have the same problem as me with the AGP !! i think that for you the better is the radeon x 700 , good luck mate ! :) i have only 500 u$s and i ´ve to get a motherboard , video card & processor ... damn it !!

Alrite. I'm switching from my old FX5200 to a Radeon 9600... I'm on a budget of $60... If ebay is up to trust, then there's a high chance I'll use that. I might get a Radeon 9800 Pro for my budget on ebay...

It's certainly an upgrade, especially if you had a POS FX5200 ...

How'd you play CS:Source with a FX5200??

My friend has a 6800 and he still claims to 'lag' when I pwn him. Heh. I have a 6600, and I have everything in CS:S cranked up to max. Nothing lags. :)

God, I want a new GFX Card. NFS: Most Wanted lags, and that pisses me off, especially when I'm drag racing.

Lag is caused by a slow connection, not a slow graphics card. Low FPS is not lag.

Well, his Ping read like 10, whereas mine read 22......

Low FPS is not lag? That's like saying Most Wanted is lagging on me because I'm not connected properly (which I am).

Well, lag has several different meanings. I think what was meant to be said was a bad graphics card doesn't cause bad ping.

Lag, from "lag behind", is a slang term for slow Internet speeds or Internet latency; Lag is sometimes due to a server problem, but more frequently due to the connection between client and server. A slow or intermittent connection may often be referred to as laggy.

Dudes, there's Internet Lag, Graphics Lag and Stuttering.

Internet Lag is determined by your connection to the server and the other people's connections. I mean, when I play UT04, sometimes it lags because a dude with a high ping has entered and causing other people distruptenices. (But offline, the game does NOT lag at all and I'm getting high FPS)

Your ping has nothing to do with the graphics card, but it does have everything to do with your connection. Then again, if you have a crappy video card and slow connection, then you're really messed.

Graphics lag is obviously having low FPS because your graphics card can't handle all the graphics.

Stuttering is usually caused by problems in the game engine. (e.g. NFS MW has major stuttering issues) and many people think it's lag but with stuttering, you may have the best video card in the world, and you would still get stuttering.

There can be only one lag... And that lag is slow internet speed.

Graphics lag doesn't exist. That's like the videocard sending out the images too slowly to your monitor.

They are the sux if you want to play the latest games with reasonably high settings, you're better off buying a 7 series because the 6600GT doesn't pack enough punch anyway for the latest games, and the 7600GT is actually dead cheap for how it performs.

I've had a change of plans to upgrade from a FX5200 to a GeForce 6200 256MB. I'm on a budget of $60 and the 6200 for $55 is the cheapest best thing I could find. =) I think it will make a HUGE improvement.
