im only gonna go for ATI cards... sorry nVidia fans, but i'm an ATI lover at heart...
i dont want to buy from circuit city either, but almost all the other stores i've looked at don't have those cards (or anything equivalent) in AGP form...
right now, i'm thinking the X700 Pro over the AIW... i looked at a product comparison on ATI's website, and it seems to be the better of the two in terms of graphics processor power

when it comes to computers, there's three things that i always go with: AMD, Kingston, and ATI. over the years, those have proved the most stable to me.
i've decided upon the ATI card. i've read at least 10 reviews comparing the X700 Pro to the 6600GT, and they ranked about the same when it came to real in-game performance, although benchmarks disagreed. since real in-game performance is what matters, i think i'm definitely gonna go with the Radeon X700 Pro.

Ill vouch for that.prince1142003 wrote:when it comes to computers, there's three things that i always go with: AMD, Kingston, and ATI. over the years, those have proved the most stable to me.
while you may not get top notch out of ATI at times, Ive never had graphical problems like with my Nvidias...
The X700 Pro doesn't even come close to the 6600GT, but whatever you want to believe ...
X700 Pro:
Core - 420 MHz x 8 Pipelines = 3360 MPixels/s
Memory - 864 MHz x 128-bit = 13.824 GB/s
Shader/Vertex Model = 2.0/2.0
6600GT:
Core - 500 MHz x 8 Pipelines = 4000 MPixels/s
Memory - 900 MHz x 128-bit = 14.4 GB/s
Shader/Vertex Model = 3.0/3.0
Where exactly are you getting these "real in-game" results ?
In my experience, the 6600GT > X700 Pro in everything ...

Those numbers don't always tell which is better...Jmac- wrote:The X700 Pro doesn't even come close to the 6600GT, but whatever you want to believe ...

But here's some test for you:
http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/174/1/
From the last page:
"Directly compared to the the 6600 GT both cards have some advantages and disadvantages. But make no mistake, considering it's equal price the GeForce 6600 GT does have the overall lead in performance and it has a newer feature set (Shader Model 3)."
lol wut
They almost always do, especially for modern games ... and the 6600GT was equal to or better than the X700 Pro in every game in that review ...Pabl0z wrote:Those numbers don't always tell which is better...Jmac- wrote:The X700 Pro doesn't even come close to the 6600GT, but whatever you want to believe ...

The only advantages to the X700 Pro is it has 6 vertex shaders and is easier to find in a 256 MB version.

you have the same problem as me with the AGP !! i think that for you the better is the radeon x 700 , good luck mate !prince1142003 wrote:hey, my old graphics card just gave out, so i have to get a new one. i've got $200 that i can use, and i've narrowed it down to two cards. they're both priced nearly the same. so, here they are:
ATI Radeon X700 Pro
ATI All-In-Wonder 2006
My system specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ at 2.20 GHz
1GB DDR RAM
400 Watt PSU
ASUS K8N MoBo with only AGP slots (I need the PCI slots for other things)
i just want to know which one among those two cards would be better for me. note, that i use my computer for purposes other than just gaming. what i'm worried about is which card has the least bottleneck on my PC.
any ideas?
Dudes, there's Internet Lag, Graphics Lag and Stuttering.
Internet Lag is determined by your connection to the server and the other people's connections. I mean, when I play UT04, sometimes it lags because a dude with a high ping has entered and causing other people distruptenices. (But offline, the game does NOT lag at all and I'm getting high FPS)
Your ping has nothing to do with the graphics card, but it does have everything to do with your connection. Then again, if you have a crappy video card and slow connection, then you're really messed.
Graphics lag is obviously having low FPS because your graphics card can't handle all the graphics.
Stuttering is usually caused by problems in the game engine. (e.g. NFS MW has major stuttering issues) and many people think it's lag but with stuttering, you may have the best video card in the world, and you would still get stuttering.
