Post by Pirre »

may sound stupid, but almost everything I know about cars, I know from nfsu...
Is there a difference between 'bhp' and 'hp'? If so, what is bhp?

thx in advance ^^

BHP stands for Brake Horse Power. AFAIK, this is the power of the car measured at the wheels - ie the power that the car can put onto the road. Horsepower (HP) can be measured at several places right down the drivetrain, but of course power is lost along the way as the energy is used to move the various drivetrain parts. Thus, BHP is a good measurement of the real power output of the entire car.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

GT, you are right. I think. I'm certain, at least. I read in a book that a Lancer or something had 250 BHP and I think it has 250 HP.

oh and onther thing... the word "brake" is not referring to the brakes of a car (brembo stillen hehhe) but it referrs to "gear-ratio" or "velocity-ratio" which is deleoped by the drivetrain as GT well said before...

Actually I didn't - I had thought it meant something to do with where the measurement was taken.. brake.. axle.. wheel..
