Quice question about neon.
Quice question about neon.
How does neon work in real life? Can you turn it on and off?
Neon is just a gas, it's the 10th element in the periodic table, and it's a noble gas (which is very, very stable). According to my chemistry textbook, "an electric discharge produces high-energy electrons that strike Ne atoms and excite certain Ne electrons to a higher energy state. When an excited electron in the neon atom returns to a low-energy orbital, a photon of light is emitted." So, yeah, turn the electicity off, and the neon turns off also.
