How does neon work in real life? Can you turn it on and off?

Offcourse you can turn it off :D
It would be stupid if it was on all the time, even when you're not driving

Neon is just a gas, it's the 10th element in the periodic table, and it's a noble gas (which is very, very stable). According to my chemistry textbook, "an electric discharge produces high-energy electrons that strike Ne atoms and excite certain Ne electrons to a higher energy state. When an excited electron in the neon atom returns to a low-energy orbital, a photon of light is emitted." So, yeah, turn the electicity off, and the neon turns off also.

Yeah.

I remember that when I was a newbie I used to think that cars had got 1 big neon in the center down the car

Actually the cars need 4 neon-tubes: 1 in front, 1 in the rear part and 2 for both sides (all in the same color obviously!)

My question is: Do pulse neons exist in real life??

Meh, that looks crappy. In underground games, the neon switchs ON and OFF smoothly which is cool.

In the video, it's more like flashing. A pulse like neon does exist.

The neons are illegal in real life :)
It's also possible to make the neons as VU-meters. Isn't that cool?

At my place there was a 206 with a neon, PARKED, and the neon was turned on. A cop walked to the car, waited a few mins, had to pay the ticket (it was BIG). I looked on the net a bit, and it's illegal (not everywhere) because it distracts other driver's attention. Quite logical...
