Which car should I buy and why?!?!?
Which car should I buy and why?!?!?
I've recently come across this problem, which one of these two cars should I buy:
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR FQ-340
Subaru WRX STi
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR FQ-340
Subaru WRX STi

Both cars have their own qualities. I personally would take the Evo over the STi based on looks and what not. Plus you don't see as many Evo's around here, so you'd be more unique looking. Anyways... I've heard from several people that the STi is a straight up beast all around. My dad drove one and he said it wasn't the fastest car he's driven(he's been a mechanic for 20yrs
), but it was one of the best handling cars he's ever seen. He's driven all sorts of cars and he's very experienced as a mechanic so I trust his judgement.
I heard there was a new rally edition of the STi out, go for that
But a 300hp handling monster sounds good to me. Plus you can always mod it some more

WRX STi
I've heard nasty stories about body rust on some of the imported Evos, not to mension the recent corporate state of Mitsubishi Motors as a company-

I don't know if Mitsu would be around long enough to even hold their warranty up.

WhoopsieMitsubishi Corp. dropped from 10th to 389th with $14,116 million while Mitsui & Co. fell from 11th to 177th with $26,385 million.

yes and soo what...Sp3aK wrote:Stereo all your going based upon is looks. The rest of us can actually drive.
that you have a licence doesn't mean you can drive...
and the rest of us also go for looks and stats cause simple we (most of us) never driven one of the cars.
So our opinions are just as worthless as Stereo's!
Just opinions of style!
think about it before trying to take out a younger kid!
i don't like the look of the lancer at all
couple things i've heard about the EVO/mitsu is that they're really picky about warranty service if you do any mods, and that the EVO runs high boost stock, things don't hold up so well under modding.. it's a lot easier to get big power modding the subie.
i doubt he wants opinions just on looks, he wants opinions from people who actually know things about cars, whether from driving them or reading magazines and reviews. even if he didn't say how much he's spending, anyone with a clue about cars knows an EVO and a WRX STI are a lot higher on the food chain than a Celica.

You can just take a normal Evo 8, since the MR version is a 'Mitsubishi Racing' one, but it isn't much different.
I've seen the Evo and the WRX on Top Gear, and that WRX got whacked big. Mitsubishi's Active Yaw Control owns. Simply go trough the corner with no fear.
The WRX understeered like a maniac. And put them next to each other, and the Mitsubishi owns the WRX again at a sprint.

Hey guys, thanx for the replies, yeah I saw the test on Top Gear as well, the Evo VIII (MR FQ-280) here costs $5000AUD more than the STi so I guess its the racing stuff thats pre-fitted into the Evo that makes it a tad more (is it?!?!?) how good are those big pre-fitted Enkei rims?
Anyway, the budget is around that $56000-$62000AUD, I really like the grunt these two cars produce but also looking at how realiable they are.
I don't really mind the differences in looks (they both look great) but I just want to find out from the experts here on what they think.
